Well You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.
And the colours of the sea bind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses,
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singin',
Sparkling waves are calling you to touch a white laced lip.
You see your girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.
Tiny purple fishes run laughing to your finger,
You want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.
Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,
You know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses, how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.
Tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers,
You want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Man! Hou-Tex i love that song 8)

You picked it! :P

I bought that album riding my bike home from Little League practice from a 7-11 store for $.99 in La Puente California and I can't remember the year. 68-70. I was 10-12 years old and stared at that album cover for day's. :D

Great story Gary. I had the similar experience in summer of 1964 with this album : Image going to the record store and for $1.99 getting it. I played it so much it disintegrated
They named themselves after the Buick Riviera, a pretty hot set of wheels at the time :D

My favorite version of Tales Of Brave Ulysses is off of the Live Cream Volume ll album. I love the sound of the Marshalls blaring when Clapton hits the first power cords into it.

I was given the Royal Albert Hall concert DVDs as a gift a few years ago. Still watch it often and this song is my favorite. This is the Clapton performance I try to emulate . . . but never will.

holy hell that's great

These guys have a bandcamp or something where I can get their music?

Also, as far as the Brooklyn bands go, I never get to see any of them because they never take the (relatively) short drive ot RI or Mass, and when they do, it's some basement show I don't hear about till a week later :(
