I know that what I'm about to say has nothing to do with Fender, but this is the only guitar forum I go to and I wanted to share my good fortune with all of you.

So I was out and looking around at guitars and came across a 2008 PRS, McCarty 10 top in a sunburst that is a cross between a Fender's Antique burst and 2-color-sunburst.

It's used and a "9" is condition. After mulling it over in my brain I decided to trade in my '03 Les Paul Std, in Ice Tea Burst that I can count on one hand how many times that I've played. The Les Paul looks and sounds great, but it never stayed in tune no matter what I did, weighed a ton and the pickups that were just not me ( to beefy for my taste). The truth is that I just love the light weight and ergonomic feel of Stratocasters. So the Les Paul lived most of it's in a case. I also feel that Gibson's quality control is not that good. I feel that PRS is doing a better job at making Gibson style guitars.

So I did the trade, one for one. I'm quite pleased with this guitar and can see myself actually playing this guitar. It looks really nice, has a round chunky neck, has more mellow sounding pups, and stays in tune. Also it has a coil splitting pot so I can get some nice single coil sounds.

I've wanted one of these guitars since they first showed up on the guitar scene and now I have one. Not to worry though I just got my EC Strat back from the shop and will be playing both of them in my church band (modern Christian rock) over the next few months.

Paris...congrats on the new guitar! But where are the pics? You know the rules. As for the quality, yeah I think PRS has a bit better quality than Gibson does. PRS are beautiful guitars, play like a dream, but the one I had, the pickups never grew on me, I was always searching for a better tone. Of course that may have been due to starting out on a Les Paul (Grew up near Kalamazoo) and just mentally always comparing it to that one I let get away. Glad you are enjoying your newest acquisition, but not abandoning your EC!

The McCarty is something that's on my gas radar. I'd be real interested in how you like the neck, fret radius and string spacing. Could you give us those specs?
Sounds like a nice guitar. Of course I really can't tell, SINCE THERE'S NO PICTURES!

Hi Paris, I just got back from playing an outdoor Christian music festival with my McCarty, and I gotta say i think I need to play that guitar more often. I use my PRS when we play "out" because that thing is built like a tank and I just don't have tuning issues with it even outdoors. Everything seems to be where it needs to be on it and it is a joy to play. Hope you like yours :D .

The McCarty reminds me of an older Les Paul or SG mix. The comfort and wieght of the body reminds of an SG, but the neck feels like this old chunky gold top LP I played a few years ago. I would say the neck is a baseball bat, but it's very playable.

The pickups also so sound a little more like old school LP pups. They aren't as muddy or dark sounding. The push/pullpot coil splitting it a nice touch. I can get some very cool Tele Neck and bridge tones.

Over all I'm quite pleased. I'll get to the pics when I can.

Congrats on your new PRS Paris. They are amazing guitars and Gibson is loosing a lot of customers to PRS. A guy that I jam with occasionally has an '09 LP that he paid over $3000 for and it won't stay in tune at all despite having all kinds of warranty work done on it.

A lot of times tuning problems come from the nut. I had the Corian (not sure of the spelling) replaced with unbleached bone on the LP, but it didn't help.

I have a belief that part of the problem is design. I've noticed over the years that all "3 on a side" head stocks have trouble with keeping the "G" and "B" strings in tune.

I paid $2500 for my LP and though it looks great (one of the best I've ever seen) and nice tone, I just never connected with the guitar. I found the HBs too hot and a one trick pony. I came to realize that I'm not a HB guy. Thankfully the McCarty's pups are not are as hot as the LP's.

Now I'm trying to learn as much as possible about PRS and this guitar in particular.
