I put the strap that comes with the 50th Anniversary White Blond 57
Strat on my guitar. Later on I put the guitar in the case thats
sold with it and left the strap on the guitar (as recommended) and
closed the case. The next day I opened the case and I have stains
from the strap on the face of the guitar where the strap made contact
with the body. I'm guessing chemicals in the strap reacted with the
guitars finish because the stains are in the guitars finish. I've tried
vigorous scrubbing and cleaning with no luck. Any ideas or suggestions
on how these strap marks can be removed? Thanks.

Yes, at least I think it is. It's the strap that came with the kit they
include with the 57 Anniversary Strat re-issue. Except for the part
that goes over your shoulder it's only about 1/2 inch wide, probably
not very expensive, which is probably why this happened. How
did you go about removing a leather stain?

the typical way to soak up what sounds like a oil stain is to put flower on the stain and let is soak up the oil. However i am not sure how this will work on wood grain,. i am suprised that it soaked in to a laquer coated guitar, but give that a whirl and see what happens

Is it a nitro finish? I know that nitro finishes can be very sensitive sometimes. It's a main reason why they don't make vinyl guitar straps anymore-or shouldn't (it'll melt nitro if in contact!). If anyone knows of anyone that still uses anything vinyl around a nitro finished guitar, PLEASE tell them NOT to!

I've had that happen before, many years ago. You can also get marks on your neck if you rest a nitro finish on one of those surgical rubber padded guitar stands. That rubber hosing they use leaves a mark in a uncured nitro finish. I did that to a ES 135 6 years ago. Brand new guitar. Good thing I didn't like it much.

I could see how the flour suggestion would work if it were damp,
near the surface stain but this went down into the varnish and dried.
I had no idea leather straps could do this or I'd have never left one
on the guitar. Progress with a buffer/polisher was very slow so I
typed "leather stain" into the search engine here and found a couple
threads this has been discussed in. A magic eraser was mentioned
and I just happened to have one so I experimented with it and found
that a combination of a magic eraser and the buffer polisher and
some patience got rid of the stains. Thanks for the suggestions
and help. If it weren't for the info I got here I'm sure it would've
taken a lot longer to deal with them.
