Just goes to show what a great band they were. In my eyes at least! :)
this is exactly why I fallow the beatles. this is why I love them so much. they didn't write many bad songs. and when they did, they failed with style.
Definitely! What a band!

Isn't it true the Beatles used back-up studio musicians, such as:
Glenn Campbell, Booker T, The Memphis Horns, The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
James Burton, Billy Preston, Ray Cooper, Ry Cooder, The Funk Brothers, Pete Best,
Ian Stuart, Stuart Sutcliffe, Duane Allman???

Isn't it true the Beatles hired "behind the scenes" song writers for much of their music.
Didn't they use the same writers as the Monkees? Hired Neil Diamond? Bob Dylan?
Chuck Berry, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Carole King? Van Morrison? Little Richard?
Carl Perkins and James Brown?

Do you really think the Beatles wrote over 230 songs themselves?
Never paid under-the-table for some good licks or song ideas?

Do you really think the Beatles developed into the musicians playing on the
thirteen studio albums, developed into that type of talent in seven years?

The Walrus was Paul! Really? Check under the costume.
Who burried Paul in Strawberry Fields?
What if "28"?
Why is the "hand of death" over Paul in Sgt Peppers?
Is "Revolution Number Nine" reality?
Who wore the corpse outfit?
Who proclaimed, "Turn Me On, Dead Man"?

And the Beatles actually played all of their songs, sang all of their songs,
wrote all of their music, controlled all of their mixing and wrote all of the words.
Really?

And the Beatles used 1963 & 1964 Bassman amps.

I can't name any one, but when I want to relax/chill, I usually
put on "Eat A Peach" by The Allman Brothers Band.

"Released in February 1972, less than four months after Duane Allman's death, EAT A PEACH gathers together the final tracks laid down by the original Allman Brothers Band, the only studio documentation of the short-lived five-man, one-guitar ABB lineup and the remaining performances from the concerts which had yielded the epochal AT FILLMORE EAST album. Far from being a stereotypical posthumous odds and ends collection, however, EAT A PEACH is a treasure trove containing much of the Brothers' best work, and stands right beside FILLMORE at the very apex of their stupendous body of recordings."

Gotta say, great "jam" album.
"One Way Out", next to "Statesboro Blues", is my favorite Allman Brothers song.
Mountain Jam is a great one to fall asleep to.
Anyway, before my time, but my parents had the album
and I later learned of the greatness of Duane Allman.

I loved the story of how Duane came to play on Eric's album with the Domino's. That to me indicated what was so cool back then; someone would just turn up and play on someone else's album if they liked them and vice versa, sort of mutual appreciation. No hassle just for the love of the thing. Today on the other hand they'd be consulting lawyers and managers and looking at the small print on contracts

Man i wish i had a time machine to go back to the late 60's early 70's! 8) Everything was soooo much freer and better.

You're quite right about it being a freer, more collegial time when it came to music though that probably had something to do with the fact that there were fewer people involved (lawyers in particular)

This is my favourite album sometimes, because it has moments where it sounds like nothing else;

Other times "I'm Wide Awake Its Morning" by Bright Eyes is my favourite, and I've been listening to "Ugly Organ" by Cursive a lot recently.

Yes, I was trolling for some die-hard sticks-in-the-mud never-say-die Beatle fans.
Too much seriousness in the world.
Loved the "Paul McCartney is Dead" hoax and
how it was beautifully played out over years, songs & albums.

"I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph.

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
but I just had to look
Having read the book.

I'd love to turn you on

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all

Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall."

Hi Alex, oh yeah now everythings all big business and money money money. back then things weren't so tight and restricted and people seemed more open minded about a lot of things. Playing on albums like Layla would have been a thing where they would just have casually arranged it and there's Duane in playing alongside Eric and Co. Great stuff there!

Yeah the fashion, when we look back on it, might look a bit iffy but those were strange and fun times.

Hi Gorgon,
Strange and fun times indeed 8) I was there and I actually do remember....
Like any other era, there were positives and negatives...women started making strides forward, but were still treated poorly in the 60's and 70's. Drugs turned out to be dangerous to some...I had a couple of friends who succumbed and this changed my habits completely.
On the positive side, there were plenty of jobs...not always what you wanted to do for the rest of your life, but there would always be another one waiting. There was a feeling of anything is possible....*MAGIC*... in the air much of the time.
Still, I have few regrets from those years, but I don't want to go back there either! Guitars were way too expensive for one thing....
cheers.....

The Traveling Wilburys had some fun sharing the spotlight.
Bruce Springsteen is good at working with others.

That's a question that I truely have no answer for as there are so many albums that I admire and love equally that it would be literally impossible to pick one from the lot. Any album I picked would no doubt be by Hendrix or The Beatles as they were all my biggest musical influences and mentors. As it was with Jimi's recordings, each one of The Beatles was a gem also so to pick a favourite I'd have to put the name of each album in a bag and pick a winner.

Does anybody REALLY believe "Pet Sounds" is REALLY GREAT :!: :!: :!:

I agree it was a "game changer" and is considered a top classic.
But, MOST (not all) songs are good for background music. Great for relaxing.
Is "Pet Sounds" supposed to be a relaxing album?

What do you think?
