Has been for a while. I got it because I heard they influenced many bands I was obsessed with at the time. So when I put it in my CD player, I was really eager to hear what the fuss was all about. By the third song, I was almost disgusted. I'd never heard anything like it before, honestly, I thought it was a joke. So I put it away for a while. A month had passed, an I still thought it sounded so bizzare, I just had to listen to it again. I wasn't expecting much, but when I heard it the second time, I was so confused; confused at the fact that the first time I heard it I thought it was a complete mockery, and the secondtime, I thought it was simply the greatest album I'd heard. None of those endless solo, self indulgence, 'I'm better than you cause I can play at 300 bpm' bullshit. Just sheer, loud 'f*ck you, I'm doing what I want' attitude rock n roll. That is what rock music means to me. $@!& everything else, this is the template for me.

RIP Ramones

Now that's a tough question there are a few Beatles albumns in the mix Abbey Road, Rubber Soul and Revolver but for pure go to listening at the moment it has got to be Jimi Hendrix Axis Bold as Love.

Spanish castle magic, Castles made of sand, bold as love and the absolutely stunning little wing... What a collection of brilliant songs.

But the list could go on so many brilliant albums including Layla which has already been mentioned and so many more but Axis has been in my car for years and always makes me smile when I hear it...and make me practice for hours to get a lot better than I am now!

Probably not everyone's best but I like it :D

Our reactions to first hearing it were completely different :P

Then again, I was a small child when I first heard it. When I first really listened close, I started air drumming. I was probably 6 when that happened, but I've had it in my mind since before then.

Good on you for choosing a great album.

yes i know most people think they're crap (though in my experience of discussing it, it goes from "they're crap" to eventually "i just dont like Liam") which is the real reason they dont like oasis, i love it.

they arent the best musicians in the world - certainly not the original line-up from this debut - but theres no doubt liams voice is huge, and that Noel is a very very good songwriter.

i was about 10 when this came out, all id listened to before was my dads music, ranging from Bowie to Blondie to T-rex to the Quo and Madonna. also unfortunately genesis and U2  this was the first CD i ever brought with my own money, the first time i took the decision on what music I liked, which for us as guitar/bass players, is a pretty defining moment.

the album and band were in the right place at the right time. it went from miserable grunge music about killing yourself and other various miserable instances, to Oasis singing about being normal and having a good time. going down the pub, playing footy in the park, getting drunk and pulling and being a rockstar. it was happy music for good times.

Rock n roll star - yeah very obvious, but does what it says on the tin. writing a song about wanting to be a rockstar. i used to play this live as the final tune of the night, and it was guarenteed to leave the pub buzzing once we had finished. its very easy to keep a crowd going while you play, but to finish and have the crowd still 'on one' is much harder. everybody sang, everybody jumped around and went mental. 'Live Forever' a song about feeling invincible as oppose to wanting to die. i know what id rather listen to. and its got a great solo. :D

i could go on forever thats how much ive listened to this album, i think im on my fourth one because the other got worn out. the mood in the UK at the time was calling for exactly what Oasis delivered, and we jumped all over it.

There are way too many great albums to pick from but I lost count of how many LPs and tapes of Pink Floyds DSOTM I wore out.

Definitely and much better to listen to and more relevant rock n' roll wise than these MI graduates going to school to learn how to play rock guitar

That's supposed to be one of the reasons you play rock guitar, you don't want to go to school or university or get a crap job.

Nowadays they want to go to a college to learn about being a rocker

I could just picture Angus or Malcolm Young studying sweep picking.

Plenty of "go to" albums, depending on mood. If I had to choose only one, well you can add me to the list of Layla lovers. Fourteen songs, not a weak one among them.

Wow... This is tough...

Out of all the favorite Beatles albums, I would have to name "Sgt. Pepper".

But after careful thought and careful consideration, the ultimate "be all to end all" album of all time is:

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon 8)

There is just something about that timeless album, where each song segues into the next, and the music makes you float away into another dimension (illegal substance - optional! )
