My friend and I decided to skip today, and we were just exploring the school. We found a barbwire fence surrounding what we think is a beat to hell '72 Plymouth Road Runner. It's amazing, even in its state of decay. From the tags, which only add to the mystery, it's been sitting since 1984. We got some pics, because we aren't even exactly sure, but it closely matches a '72. We are definitely sure it's a mopar, considering it has the rims, the body shape, and unusual hood.

Pics: (I censored the license plate, just in case it does actually have an owner, who does actually plan on doing something with it)

Can anyone offer a positive ID, would be greatly appreciated.

If I can swing it for $500 or less, it might be something I want to jump into with my dad or uncle or with my friend's dad

mmm, yes. I'd haul it up to PA and spend the summer there if my dad could dedicate time to working on it.

here is some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Road_Runner.

without looking under the hood i can tell you it needs allot of work. it appears to have been sitting for quite some time. i would imagine the brakes are rusted tight. no telling how rusted the underside is.

yea its been sitting for a while..... probably was parked after someone tore up the transmission. if you have the time and money the body is in nice shape for a restoration and it looks like the glass and trim are salvageable. but if the floor is rusted out and the interior is rough you might want to pass. It needs to be revived, its sad seeing a nice car rot like that

Seeing a great car in a state of decay is my motivation. It's not really a monetary thing, in fact more of an emotional thing.

If I can contact an owner and actually get to have a look at everything, i'll be able to asses damage

1972 Plymouth Road Runner or GTX. It's pretty hosed but someone truly motivated could save it. The "grabber" hood hints at something pretty potent beneath it. Base engine for the RR was a 400-cube "B block", the GTX had the 440 Magnum as standard. The 426 hemi was optional for either as was a 340 for the RR.

I once owned a '74 Road Runner in "Spinnaker White", with the 360 Magnum motor and 727 Torqueflite tranny. It was roomy, comfortable, and turned some heads when cruising the strip on a Friday night.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay

If you are able to get hold of it sell it. That car will cost you a ton of money to do anything with. You would be able to get maybe a couple thousand for it it it is a roadrunner.

You were a Vegas boy? Do tell more of your casino running, girl getting, guitar playing adventures!

But I'm sure my dad would love the bonding experience. He has a great garage my grandpa left to him and my uncle to share, and I think it's time we test that garage!

(then again, I'm a huuuuuge optimist)

That's what I was thinking, but if the damage is all just surface, and the engine is a goody, then I'd hopefully have it painted and done up in a nice color. (probably the same color, banana yellow)

best case scenario: It's owned by a little old lady who doesn't like it and it was her husband's but he's long gone and she just wants it off her property and would take $100 for it. Then I put it on CL and watch the money roll in (if I'm lucky)

Worst: nothing happens.

If the bodys not a complete rust through you'll get some money for it. I got a few cars like that in my day. I got a 66 T-bird from a guy that was under a wood pile for many yrs. Got the wood off it put a batt in it starting fluid and drove it out of his yard.

try 28 years  the tags say July of 84.

but if that could help, i'll try.

reminds me of that autozone commercial where the guy finds the old car (think it was a 70s camero) and it says "you can fix her, you can have her" in the windshield.
