Stax Records (Concord Music Group) has released Albert King's I'll Play the Blues for You as part of its Stax Remasters series.

Enhanced by 24-bit remastering by Joe Tarantino, four previously unreleased bonus tracks, and newly written liner notes by music journalist and roots music historian Bill Dahl, the reissue not only spotlights one of the most entertaining and influential blues recordings of the 1970s, but also underscores the album's the enduring nature four decades after its original release.

PBS is running yet another fund raiser. Last night they showed the SRV-Albert King session. That never gets old!

Yeah, that's 'special' version that Jimmie Vaughan & Stax Records makes available for PBS stations for pledge week, like EC does for the Crossroads Fest.

I had a second generation VHS copy of the original broadcasts that a Canadian friend sent me back in the '90s, but the DVD is better http://tinyurl.com/7qz7gzz.

I saw Albert King several times back in the '80s here at Gilly's http://www.gillysjazz.com/, but I never talked him. He seem unapproachable, not very friendly at all, but I wish that I had talked to him.

I later met and got to know Carl Weathersby http://carlweathersby.org/, who played with King for many years and he told that one really had to earn King's trust. Once he got to know someone he was very friendly.
