id like to find out more about the effect used that makes a solo sound like its being played backwards. heres an example, at about 1:45 if you want to skip to it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kr354alTqdE&feature=related

i dont even know what the ffect is called, so i dont think my google-fu will be much good to me. and i dont know if theres a similar effect which may confuse me even more.

what should i be looking for ?

The BOSS DD-20 has a reverse delay function. If you turn off the existing note, you can play backwards. It's weird. It made me feel strange.

Has lots of other toys in it too... well worth the ker-ching.

Other songs with cool reverse solos... What's The Frequency, Kenneth? by REM and Dig by Incubus.

so the effect im looking for is called reverse delay then ? im not sure what you mean by 'turn off the existing note'. im not too technical with my guitar playing, i just sort of assumed you turn the effect on, play normally, and it comes out backwards ?

i have a marshall echohead delay pedal, which to be honest ive never really used much or had much love for. i just checked apparently it has reverse delay on it. i shall have to investigate. i would hazard a guess at it being crap, but i'll have a fiddle.

cheers,

Just had a look at the Echohead... you'd need to turn the delay time as low as possible to get it as immediate as possible.

Then you need to mess about with the feedback and level controls. If you set the feedback quite low, you'll get just one repeat of the note you've played- which is what I'm assuming you're going for.

Level will determine how loud is it compared to your normal amp sound. Try to get it as similar as possible. I can't really remember how it works on my BOSS, but it does it very well... :?

Though a bit too big to be called a pedal, the Fender G Dec 3 amplifiers have a reverse delay effect built in. It's quite nice and the amps are currently on sale.
cheers,
Alex
