Actually, I could put piccolo strings on a bass or play up high on the neck. :P The strings wouldn't flop around and sound like a buzzing fart, either. So I could make bass sound like a guitar, if I chose to.

I never said there was anything wrong with it, either. I just thought it was odd. Variety can be interesting. I've noticed it's prevalent in Cookie Monster vocal metal, which I don't play, nor listen to. I guess it ads depth to all the chug-chugging. Like I said, to each their own.

I play multi instruments (there's your variety), bass just being my main one. I'll go to any forum I chose to. Have a nice day! 8)

Tuning down depends on the song, having a back-up bass or 2 helps in a live setting just so you don't have wait time between songs with different tuning.
CK, if you are into the metal music in general and growler style singing, try this tuning

C-cow
G-girls
C-can
F-f...
A-all
D-day

I've only played a few songs with this tuning. The most recognizable is Superdead by the band Bunkerhill from Chicago. They used that tuning on several of their songs and told it to me when I asked about their sound. Write something with that tuning and you will probably use it from time to time because it sounds massive, lol.

There's one band, a duo, drum and bass, that if you heard and were told it was a BASS, you'd call that person a f***ing dirty liar. Look up Lightning Bolt.

Im going though a Keith Richards stage so open G at the moment..... It's so easy to write Keith off as a hack but tune to G and rock some of his stuff and you totally get what he was doing huh.... Such a great blues tuning...

I stay in standard but I've tried Drop D.

Am still considering the new Tele baritone, though.

I use FAGFAG tuning.

Just kidding, I have no idea what I'm tuned to, but I've gotten the same tone since I started playing, and am happy with it!

Electric is usually always in Stadard E. Sometimes Open G.

But on my acoustic I love DADGAD and Drop-D. The only problem there is the strings snapping when I try to tune back up.
