The B.B. King DVD I played along is only about 45min, I was just getting warmed up, so I pulled out 'Tail Dragger: My Head Is Bald - Live at Vern's Friendly Lounge' DVD http://tinyurl.com/cxkdnaw.

James Y. Jones aka 'Tail Dragger' is a living Chicago blues legend. He was mentored by Howlin' Wolf, and 'Tail Dragger', when he was younger, could really imitate Wolf's yowl.

Almost every blues musician in Chicago has been a part of Tail Dragger's band at one time, including me.

No, I'm not from Chicago, but the first time I went to Chicago with Snapper Mitchum, we went to see Tail Dragger. He saw Snapper, called him up to play bass, and Snapper dragged my butt up to play as well. Tail Dragger tried to hire me :) .

Lurrie Bell (Carey's son) is part of Tail Dragger's band for this DVD. Lurrie had been suffering from schizophrenia and was homeless, until he was found by family member. The meds seem to be working for him now.

Shame that about Lurrie, i remember back in the day he was featured as one of the best up and coming young blues guitarists in 'Guitar Player' magazine.

Better news to hear he's getting some help.

He still is a great bluesman, he's not at the top of his 'game' in this DVD, but no doubt he can still play from the soul.

I met Lurrie back in the summer of '78, he 16yrs and I was 27yr. Dennis Stewart, owner of the famous Walnut Hills bar, brought Lurrie to play at the club after seeing him play with Koko Taylor at that year's Chicago Blues Fest.

He asked a friend to put together a band to back Lurrie, who called me, and after meeting with Dennis, Dennis asked if I would organize a practice session. Lurrie came in late Thur night via Grayhound and we practiced all day that Fri.

We played Fri & Sat, I learned more about playing blues in those two days, than I had in six years of playing guitar.
