If you're in a band, it can do you a lot of good. It lets people know where your next gig is, and share photos of them. I used to be a Facebook hater, now I just tolerate it.

No joke, our old keyboard player basically gave up being in our band for a Facebook page... Then he deleted the page. Now he doesn't have either one. A good example of how extreme some people take it. If you keep yourself in check, it's not such a bad thing.

+1

And you don't need some "4G plan" to enjoy a Princeton Reverb.

I have a FB page which helped me connect with long lost buddies from 30+ years ago. I keep my friend list short and my account as private as possible. I use it mostly to drop notes to friends and post pictures that I want to use on the net or share with friends. I post on there only once a week or less.

I finally broke down and got a cell phone 2 years ago for $15. I just buy minute cards when I need to. A cheap way to go. I recently upgraded to a $35 phone that has a camera and double minutes for life! Woo Hoo!

I don't have a cell phone either and will never get one. To me it's just not necessary. The amount of phone calls people make to talk about mundane rubbish and then they pay a mobile phone provider for that privilege! no thanks.

Just another means of controlling the masses. Think back to when we never had them and everyone was a lot happier.

One area where they are good though; if you've broken down in your car somewhere and there's no phone boxes around for miles! They certainly are good for that case. For emergencies.

Trouble is the mobile phone corps don't want people using them just for emergencies, or they wouldn't make any money. Which is why they encourage their use for the most trivial of reasons

I'm not registered with Facebook - - I also never
did and don't intend to buy shares in FB.

I'd consider buying FMIC stock though.

They are invaluable for that reason, if you were stranded and you didn't have it you'd be cursing

Ah-ha! Very good call.

Days before FB's stock floated I saw one of their execs on TV saying that the company isn't over-valued, this is not like the last tech bubble, different economic rules now apply - this time it's all going to be different.

Anytime you ever hear someone claiming that "this time it's different", that is a loud, clear warning it's time to get out. Or in Facebook's case, never get in.

And look where the stock is now. My, that bubble didn't last long...!

Cheers - C

maybe i'm a luddite, but i have no interest in having a facebook account. don't feel the need to tell every move i make, and i call family and friends. maybe i'm just old-fashioned

thr reason i bring this up is because many bussineses are tying in their special offers to facebook users.- the whole "like" thing. i get so many e-mail offers that require you to have a facebook account to win things, or to get special prices that it is getting frustrating.

anybody else annoyed by this- or am i just getting old and crabby?

Nah, I've a facebook account that I use to keep intouch with departed Fender forum members. I also use it to host photos as the upload from my phone is a lot easier than the photobucket upload.

I know what you mean about people posting the most inappropriate things. My extended family recently had an upset.Next thing I see is some member of my family posting about it looking for sympathy. Some people eh? (sorry to anyone that has been on the wrong end of my index finger this last fortnight BTW).
The audacity of some people eh? I just think it's utterly base the way some people post about the most private things for the better part of the human race to view.

To echo Jah Soldier. I now use my account for getting intouch with promoters. Got my band another 4 bookings yesterday and booked two bands for gigs local to me that I'm putting on. It seems to be very good for that stuff.

Count me in with the non FB crowd. I never signed up and just keep slight tabs on family friends through my wife who has an account.

I got sick of people finding me back in the Myspace days.

There is another aspect of Facebook I seldom see mentioned and that's the "F"ed up problems it creates. Let's say you have a party and invite some friends over. They post pictures to your wall and yak about the great time they had. Then you get some other univited friends suddenly bitchin' to you about why they weren't invited.

And that's just scratching the surface. Wait until the old pictures of you having fun like Michael Phelps show up.

I do have an FB-account, now and then I put in some stupid comments and some links like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcXAUUwbzSQ
And do some chatting with friends and family living far away. Watch this lady's picking - and listen to the words
