maybe i'm a luddite, but i have no interest in having a facebook account. don't feel the need to tell every move i make, and i call family and friends. maybe i'm just old-fashioned

thr reason i bring this up is because many bussineses are tying in their special offers to facebook users.- the whole "like" thing. i get so many e-mail offers that require you to have a facebook account to win things, or to get special prices that it is getting frustrating.

anybody else annoyed by this- or am i just getting old and crabby?

I don't use it to post every single thing I do every single day. I update it once or twice a week, and use it to chat with people. It's really good for sharing photos as well. But I agree, face to face meeting, and chatting is so much better.

The biggest draw for me is I've lived in a fair few places abroad and it's a great way to keep up to date with whats going on with all your friends in other places, especially when it can be hard to chat on the phone with time differences conflicting with work and other things.

I started a FB account, and some girl posted that I owed her 18 years of child support.

I do and use it as I need to, as far as letting the whole world know what is happening 24/7 or knowing what everyone else is up to 24/7....WHY....
Most of this sort of posting is mundane and completely useless...

Used properly in a business context, Facebook and Tweeter can be useful, but for me posting constantly on either is as ridiculous as the cats that used to walk around with an oversized BoomBox on their shoulder blasting their eardrums.....

I had an account. It was great reconnecting with old friends and distant family. But, the site is loaded with ads and spam and viruses and censorship and major privacy issues that you have to keep reading to find their little traps and friends get insulted and bug the poop out of you when you don't play stupid games or build virtual farms with them...blah. I wouldn't use the site to meet anybody -- too many serial daters, gold diggers, weirdos, and criminals. I call them facecrook cuz they have stolen and sold personal data and then mock their members, later their ipo was dubious at best, can't wait to see how all that pans out in court. I deleted the account and won't use facecrook again.

when somebody asks me to "like" them on facebook, my response is usually "i'm not so sure i like you in real life".

i don't have a facebook account and have no plans to get one. my wife has one. i must admit that it is a good way of keeping up with friends and family, but when I want to do that i can use my wife's account.

i also do not have a cellphone and plan to get away without having one as long as possible. the fifty or so dollars I save each month goes into an account and on my birthday it helps me purchase some new gear. my birthday was in may and the money i saved in a year by not having a cellphone just helped me buy a princeton reverb reissue.
