I order these two books;

Guitar Amplifier Preamps, 2nd Edition

Guitar Amplifier Power Amps

Even a hard headed know-it-all like me can still learn something.

:P

Looks like a ton of info in there alright 8) . The thing that scares me off those books is the complicated maths involved when you build your design :lol: Ohms law and Joules law are involved enough for me :lol:

The books arrived. Reviewing the preamp book first.

The analysis used in the book is based on "lumped parameter" which basically means that everything is reduced to algebra (no calculus or differential equations required). It is similar to an analog electronics course you might see in a freshman or sophomore electrical engineering class. It is further simplified because the material focuses strictly on guitar and bass amp related issues.

If you have a grasp of algebra then the math is not overwhelming. Even if you don't know algebra it is still possible to grasp a lot of the info.

Let us know how you get on with them. I've got quite a few amp books, repair and maintenance that is, no design. But it's something i really love studying; circuits and layouts and how they affect the tone we get out the speakers at the end of the line. 8)

Have you got the fender 'Soul Of Tone' book? Not a maintenance book but an in depth look at how the circuits and amps developed down the years. Interesting it is, at least to me anyway as i like to know how things work :lol:
