I have been looking at the Starcasters on Amazon and noticed that they have "meh" reviews but these reviews are from 5 years ago. They say the strings break an the frets are sharp. I saw one review that said it was great, and that one was from 2011. It said the frets were rounded and smooth and the strings were tough. Does anyone know if the quality has went up?

If I were you, I'd skip over the Starcaster and go with a Squier or a MIM. Seriously, Starcasters tend to be bad news. They're the lowest end in terms of Fenders. A Squier might be $100-$200 more than a Starcaster, but for entry level, quality is unparalleled.

What are you looking for in a guitar?

Just a beginner guitar. I will probably upgrade to a Telecaster in October though.

Get a Squier or MIM Tele. I have a MIM Tele, and I won it at auction for $215. They're really great for modding platforms, if you ever wanted to get into that. I've modded mine, and things worked great, until one of the PUs decided to die earlier this week

You might spend $350 or so tops, but it'l be worth it in the long run. A Starcaster won't last you a year, whereas a MIM or a Squier could last 10-15+ if you take care of it.

I would get those guitars if I had extra money, but I don't ATM. I will try to get a job over the summer (I am 13) and head on down to GC and find something better. Would you recommend the Tele or Strat?

I don't know what you're trying to play. From personal experience, I'd recommend a Tele, though I've owned both, the Strat just doesn't fit my playing style, unless it's a hardtail.

I like to play 60's style rock like The Rolling Stones and The Who but I also like to play modern rock.

You do a lot of bends? If so, Stratocaster, if not, Telecaster.

Also, look in the used market. eBay can be your best friend in a situation like this.

I will try both of them out and see which one works out.

I recommend playing at least 5 of each and making a decision based on what you can do with both, considering you aren't sure yet.

Woah, I was browsing through eBay and this caught my eye...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Iron-Maiden-Aut ... 2a1d36a539

And yeah I will try 5 of each at GC and see how they are. I think my friend has a Strat too so I will try to get a hold of him, too.

I mean, if he can swing 2 MIMs for $400, do it.

I love Iron Maiden and all, but you can't really play that guitar unless you coat it. A guitar that can't be played is like a flower that can't bloom.

A guitar that can't be played is a peice of wood with metal parts . Yeah I guess you are paying for a $1,500 paperweight.
