I've been playing about 45 years. There were a few years when my kids were small that I didn't get to play as much as I would have liked, but you do what you have to do. Besides, I have no regrets, it's been great raisin' kids, raisin' cain, and playin' guitar 8) .

That's what I like about this place,we have a wide range of ages and experience, some of us have put in thousands of hours playing live and gotten to a point somewhere along the line that it has become second nature,we don't even think about what we're doing,it just flows.
then we have people who started young and for whatever reasons stopped only to pick it up at a later age and really enjoy getting it back...I like to see those posts, they have a renewed passion for the instrument.
and the young players, some are remarkable!....
This is a good place for learning at all ages,it seems from the early teens to the 60s and 70s....music is a universal language,I love it! :D

'nuff said!
There's nothing that could be added to this statement!

+1! :)

Piano (keyboards) - started at age 7, been playing for 54 years.

Guitar - started at age 14, been playing for 47 years.

Self taught on both including ear training, theory and reading (not tab).

I'm passionate about music and like many different genres.

"Everytime I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain.." - Homer Simpson.

So true GuitarMan. And learning takes a hell of a lot longer too. :?

Started playing the Classical Guitar at age 10 till 16. Then took about 34 years off. Went back to it last year.

Started playing keyboards (organ and synths) at age 17, and still play - so about 34 years. Still making it up as I go along, but no-one has rumbled me yet..

Started playing electric guitar (seriously) at age 40 - so about 11 years. Still very average.

Dabbled with Harmonica, Flute, Double Bass/Electric Bass, Theremin, Wind Synth, Guitar Synth and some other odds n ends along the way..

The C. Guitar is getting most of my attention and practise time right now. The discipline and strict technique it requires makes it a hard task master. :x

Always wished I'd learned the Cello, my favourite orchestral instrument.. Maybe next year lol. Perhaps I could commission Ceri to have a crack at making me one..

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

A few years ago, I was at a friend's house and tried my hand at "Stairway To Heaven". This is a song we both learned by ear way back when it was new. Got half way through the song and stopped. Couldn't remember what came next.

I Started when I was 6. I remember watching a video tape recording of Eric Clapton at the Knebworth 1990 festival and all I wanted to do then was to play guitar like EC. First guitar my dad bought me was a blackie style Squire strat, pretty sure in my head back then when I got given it, was that I WAS EC. Haha
I'm 25 this year, still play guitar everyday. The wish to be EC has died down a bit I guess, but must still be in the back of my mind. As I bought a 56 relic CS strat last year that is the spitting imagine of the brownie-derek and the dominoes strat.

James.

Christ. 13 years. I really plateaued, too. Learnt classical incredibly quickly over the course of 3 years, then did nothing for 4 years, then did a little bit, then finally started improving.

Still can't sweep pick, tremolo pick or solo with any kind of intensity. Life sucks.

as of today, exactly 21 years. I got my first guitar at 12 years old on my birthday. Today just hit 33, in case you didn't feel like doing math today!
