How long has everyone here been playing, and what age were you when you started? I've been playing for 7 years as of this year, and I started at age 11. What about you guys?

I first picked up the guitar at 10 in 1964 after seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show but didn't start getting either bit commited to it until 2 years later at age 12 in 1966 so I guess I've been playing seriously for 46 years.

30 years, started at 17, selftaught (with an intermediate pause of about 5 years with maybe 30 minutes of playing per week due to time consuming job)

That's what I like about this place,we have a wide range of ages and experience, some of us have put in thousands of hours playing live and gotten to a point somewhere along the line that it has become second nature,we don't even think about what we're doing,it just flows.
then we have people who started young and for whatever reasons stopped only to pick it up at a later age and really enjoy getting it back...I like to see those posts, they have a renewed passion for the instrument.
and the young players, some are remarkable!....
This is a good place for learning at all ages,it seems from the early teens to the 60s and 70s....music is a universal language,I love it! :D

Okay, at about 49 years, you can put me in the Guitar Players Geezer Club, too. And I don't know about you guys, but I can feel the mileage! Everywhere except my fingers!

Me too CR,my mind say go,but my body says no!
I do have some trouble with my hands and arthritis, but luckily it doesn't hinder my playing too much....arthritis has really done a number on my legs, that's where the mileage really shows!!

Christmas Day 1967 -- Over 44 years. Can that really be?!

Geez, you'd think I would sound a lot better after 44 years!

Just goes to show that the longer you play, the more you realize how much there still is to learn. You might master the guitar, but you can still learn something new every day.

Speaking for myself, when you get to be a geezer guitar player, however, you find it's the retention that becomes difficult. Learn one thing, forget another... :?
