This is a video of me playing a random solo the day I got my new HSS Stratocaster from my brother. Just wondering some opinions. Thanks! Link below

Cheers!

Pretty fast but a little undefined.
You gotta work on those bending notes, you stop before reaching the proper tone.

All in all pretty good for a start, keep going!

Maybe you might wanna slow down a little and work on expression, phrasing and accentuation.
Less speed, more feeling, you know?

A lot of players seem to put most concentration on getting faster instead on getting a pure good tone first.
Honestly, even if you're a metal shredder ... when you start playing ballad soli first and get them right, that'll help you way more with fast metal than just practicing lightning fast scales without expression.

Good job though! Proper hand position, using all fingers.
I'm a selftought player and up to today I regret that I haven't put more effoert in using all fingers properly. Even after more than 25 years of playing, my pinky is way behind my other fingers. :( That makes it a little harder to play really fast and complicated licks.

Well done, keep going!

I appreciate it!
I've been playing for 7 years, guitar playing is really the best thing to me. I am self taught as well, I think I'm okay, alot of people say I'm good but so far I'm just decent.
I see it like Angus Young does: You got six strings, why not use all of them?
Cheers!

+1 on the vid and review!

Smokin', have you tried doing 4 finger chromatic scales up and down the neck in different sequences and patterns incorporating lots of pinky bends and pull offs and trills and ...to to get that pinky up-to-speed with the rest of your fingers???

Yes, I do.

It's just hard to for my pinky to "catch up" with the others, ha ha ha. They have many years of more excercise than my pinky has.

I'm working on it. :D

It took me awhile to get my pinky to play the way I wanted it too. Every time I'd try to hit a certain note with it, it wouldn't hold down right and I'd get a 'dud'. But over the years ive trained the ol pinky pretty good and now it can play the way I like usually. Takes a while for sure, but well worth it.

On a keyboard my pinky is strong and my ring finger is weak. On a fretted instrument it's the reverse.

AccusedNut69, welcome to the Forum!
First of all, cool hat.
Looks and sounds like you like playing your new Strat ( a great guitar you have there Bro). You've won the hardest battle and put yourself in position to win the war so to speak. Cool chops, keep up the good work, thanks for posting.

Speed Mechanics, GuitarPrinciples.com, and JamPlay.

GuitarPrinciples does a microscopic analysis of how to use your entire body to improve technique. ..."how do I hold my arm?...how do I finger that chord?...should I stand, sit...what's the best posture for standing, sitting"...etc. Plus, she is a philosopher and she philosophizes heavily about music.

Speed Mechanics has incredible exercises to improve finger strength, dexterity, accuracy, and stamina.

JamPlay has a diverse teacher base with tons of high quality video lessons, articles, and tabs and tools and w/ live access to teachers for questions about their lessons or whatever comes to mind. It's an excellent lesson site for any style. And, they don't bug you to buy stuff. You pay $20.00 per month and get full access to the site material, the teachers, and their forum -- and that's it.

Haha thanks, I love that hat as I love classic Ford cars and my Ford truck.
Thanks! I definitely love this Strat. It's probably my favorite guitar. I bought it off my brother and it's just an amazing beauty of a guitar. Next up is a Blacktop Tele. I picked up a Les Paul a few weeks ago.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! I might post more up soon, I have one more video up somewhere down the board in the Lounge. This is a great forum, everyone is real cool here, I plan on sticking around.
Cheers!

My problem is more of a "motoric" problem.
Dunno why but my pinky joint (the upper one) seems to get "stuck" all the time. I want to hit the string but I seriously have problems to bend the finger at all. Sometimes it just feels like the joint is somehow "stuck".
Clumsy in a way..... dunno how to explain it. It's like poking a stick in someones wheel of his bike ... know what i mean? My pinky just wouldn't move "properly". No, there was no injury EVER!

It just annoys me!

There's times when my pinky "follows my brain's commands" and sometimes not!

Like in this video, where it worked pretty well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYVc2JPiAnk

Then, on another day, I just couldn't even play this song properly anymore because my pinky wouldn't do what I want.
No findings when I went to the doctor!

That was really cool.

The pinky problem can be anything from a mental block to toxins in your environment or food.
