You're welcome!

They've settled in nicely on my Hwy 1 strat -- shockingly good strings, shockingly.

EB's work good on 24 3/4" scale necks but suck on 25 1/2" scale necks.

Wire is wire. Why would one suck and another shine?

In this case, one sucks where the other shines and one shines where the other sucks. It has to do with the core and wraps. The core and wraps determine the tension of the string. The lesser tension strings like D'Addario work better on longer scale guitars and the higher tension strings like EB's work better on the shorter scale guitars.

Wire is not always wire.

I've been using D'Addario nickel plated .008-.038 for years but recently tried a set of Ernie Ball Extra Slinky .008-.038 just for curiosity because I've heard so many people rave about them.I tried a couple of sets so far and have found that even though they have held their brightness pretty well they tend to go out of tune quite easily and quite often.I installed them the same way that I've always put on extremely light gauge strings and pre-stretched them quite a bit also.

Needless to say that once these Ernie Balls are all used I'll be going back to my trusty D'Addarios.

Okay. Because you said please, I will tell.

Wire is "not wire" when it is really good wire as is EB's wire really good wire when it's used on 24 3/4" necks as is when D'A's are used on 25 1/2" necks but not visa verse. The difference is caused by the different core types, the wrap types, and the types of metals used.

I got one guitar that does not react well with almost every type of string with the exception of one brand...it just sings with Dean Markley Blue Steels on it. Yet, another guitar I got will take almost any sting brand or gauge but does not react well with Dean Markley Blue Steels. One guitar...I still haven't found its voice yet; however, I haven't tried 8.5's nor 8's on it, yet. And...this is when wire becomes really not just wire, it's when wire starts to become weird...it's when you need to mix brands and gauges to balance the voice of a guitar cuz one brand's wire won't cut it.

Thanks. You have opened my mind.
I am into the "checking out strings" stage.
I will have to find out about my guitars being
with the 24-3/4" scale neck or the 25-1/2" neck.

Why do people call a neck:
24-3/4" "Scale" neck,
instead of:
24-3/4" neck?

I guess one might as well use the word 'length' instead of 'scale' . But if you mean 'scale' is more used about 24 3/4'' , it might be because of that someone consider it 'downsized' ?

The reason would be, that it is in fact the scale length. The actual neck isn't 24-3/4" long. That measurement is from the nut to the bridge when the guitar is assembled (+/- whatever intonation makes it).

When the shorter scale is created, the increments between the frets are slightly smaller as well. If you hold a 25-1/2' scale neck face to face with a 24-3/4" neck. You will usually notice that the difference in length is somewhere around 3/4", and that the distances between the frets on the 24-3/4" are smaller. If you align them heel to heel, you'll notice the frets don't line up to each other.

Which Electric Fender Guitars use 25.5" length and which use 24.75" :?: :?: :?:

Do ALL Stratocasters use the same length?

Do ALL Telecasters use the same length?

Toppscore :)

I believe all Fender Strats and Teles are 25-1/2" scale. I know some Fender models use shorter scales, but I'm not exactly sure which ones. I'm pretty sure a Jaguar is 24". As to the rest, you can look them up in the Fender products pages on this website.
