Lots of options!
Fun to experiment.
How many guitars do you have to experiment with?

hmmmm...let me see...I have 12 guitars at my disposal. Various woods...basswood, alder, Louisiana swamp ash, Honduran mahogany, a few w/ AAAA maple caps (1 on mahogany, 3 on LSA). Trems? 3 FR's, 3 wilkies, 1 modern, 4 Fender vintage trems. 2 ht's. lots of different stock pickup configs sss, h/h, hss...ceramic, alnico 3 & 5. I've got quite a palette to work with here -- the priests of the temples of syrinx must be happy with me, it's raining guitars! oh, wait...13, a basswood hss, w/ a modern type trem, blue sparkle, dreamy neck, needs the wiring un-re-configed, I had to train the neck on that one, was left in a garage and tweaked a bit, but it's better now.

First strings i used first when i started on electric was 13. boomers.. Because that was all that we had.
A half year later, i got myself some 11-58 Nickel Rockers.. THE strings. Im still using them!
Buying new every month, 5-6 sets.
But they sound great at all times. Try them! Cheers! Mac

Same as I use, except I replace the 17 with a wound 18 string. Years ago I notice a little "warble" during certain open chords on my Strats with a plain 17, so I went to the wound 18 and it cured the problem.

I'm having loads of fun with a combo of D'Addario nickel wound 46-36-26's and GHS Boomer 14-10.5-8.5's on a hard tail, Honduran mahogany w/ a maple cap and H/H pickups.

When I change strings, if I am not in a hurry, I like to change strings one string at a time and get each string to settle before moving onto the next string and then do final adjustments after the new strings settle to get a good read on how each string and different strings effect each guitar.

I had just put the D'Addario 9-46's on and they were fully settled, but the unwound strings did not sound right despite some tweaking to see if there was a sweet spot I was missing. The boomers dialed right in and settled quickly after a string height adjustment due to different string tensions, no other adjustments, same exact string height, but w/ slightly more neck bow due to the lighter top strings. And yes, I did fiddle around with neck bow trying to get the D'Addario's to dial in, but with no success!

This is a perfect example of when string brand and string gauge make a huge difference in tone and playability on one guitar.

I tried a bunch of different strings and setups on this guitar and wasn't completely happy with the feel nor tone. If this combo holds up, I will be stoked because I think I found this guitar's voice and sweet spot, buttery metal madness with blow ur metal mind cleans via .225mm relief @ the 8th fret and 1.6 -/+ mm string height across the board @ the 17th fret!

One guitar I'm working on loves EJ Nickel Rocker 10-50's, another Dean Markley Custom Light 9-46's, another D'Addario Light 9-42's, and now, ...Custom Light Ultra Light 46-8.5's on this one!

...now I need to find a guitar that likes GHS Boomer 40-32-22's w/ D'Addario 16-11-9's combo so strings won't go to waste -- an Ultra Light Light combo! I already have one guitar in mind for that cuz it's not liking anything else that much thus far!

I have used D'Addario 8-38 for many years but lately I tried Ernie Ball Extra Slinky 8-38 but haven't made my mind up yet.One set has an 11 B string and a 14 G and another set has a 10 B and 15 G I wish someone would make a set with a 10 and 14 in it so I could avail of really light B and G strings rather than having to buy an extra string every time that I buy a set of strings.Does anyone know of a set with a 10 B and 14 G ?

Been using these on my semi-hollow body guitar, the wound 3rd helps keep it in tune

At the moment Fender 250 NPS 10s seem to sound great on everything I've got. I'd like to give the pure nickel a try as I've heard people singing their praises.

Changed to pure nickel a few years ago myself and never looked back.
First used Rotosound but the D string was really short for my ES + Bigsby (it's a long way from the Bigbsy to the tuning peg!)

Now I'm using D'Addario pure nickels (10s) on the Gibson and the Rotosound on my Strat. Totally convinced by the sound. And they're worth the extra price as they last forever.

Fender pure nickel 10-46. Either with or without bullet ends depending on my guitar I happen to be stringing.
