It's not that I dislike guitarists. There are plenty of guitarists I do like. They are either reigned in by a songwriting band member or are more focused on songs than a solos. Or have a very tactful, diplomatic editor.
Despite being phenomenal players. Vernon Reid and Paul Simon are both great examples of great songwriters that are gorgeous guitarists. From completely different styles too. I can listen to either at the drop of a hat and fully enjoy myself.

It's the selfish, uncaring, boring solomeisters that get my goat. I love listening to Knopfler. I can't deal with the Love over Gold album though. There is not one song on it under five and a half minutes. What ever happened to rock'n'roll. Knopfler certainly forgot on that album.

So, would you "drop a hat' for Johnny Ramone?

Actually, I was referring to Britney Spears' and Taylor Swift's guitar chops & chord licks.

They both front bands, but ARE they BORING?
I could watch Britney play all night long (with ear plugs and oogle glasses) :D

Trying to get back to the OP's thread focus

What do you mean by drop hat?

I like Johnny for a lot of reasons. Namely that he formed and kept the best underdog band in the world, ever, going for 20+ years. Despite them being nothing but a bunch of know-nothings.
Every band needs a man with a hand on the whip to do anything.

Do I like his technical prowess? Not particularly, though I have stellar adoration of his composition skills and the way he thought about rhythm playing. e.g How chord shapes sound different. And how he implemented that thinking in how to accent vocal phrases. Also how he's sustain a chord for an inordinate amount of time. Furthermore how he'd construct a setlist to allow his hand rest room. Whilst still delivering full on energy throughout the set. How he choreographed performances and set a dictatorial regime for rehearsals. It made for three quarters of an hour that felt like three by the time you'd come out, they packed so much in.

Do I like him as a person? Dunno, never met him. Don't like that he nicked Joey's bird, that was silly. I do like that he hit Deedee for messing up and sacked Marky till he got sober.

Long songs played so quickly they sound short. To quote Lemmy, "If you want to learn about rock'n'roll, this is where you go. The Ramones".
Says it all coming from a man who remembers before rock'n'roll existed but made a livelyhood from it.

Niki, if you think about it, Johnny turned his simplicity into a complicated thing.

Taylor Swift has a vocal range of like half an octave.
Floyd, Taylor Swift has a very wealthy half octave voice, don't cha think?
Probably similar to Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan
Right, because having money and success clearly equates to talent. No, those things definitely don't have anything to do with marketability.

I just have to say that most cover bands are kind of boring.

Excluding this one Misfits/Danzig cover band that actually opened up for The Misfits 2 years in a row. They put on a better show than The Misfits imo.

Basically, the lead singer put a catwalk halfway out into the audience, so when you were standing, his feet were right next to you. (it was basically a 4 or 5 foot tall and 2 foot wide, maybe 5 foot long) plywood box) he'd be out on this catwalk and pull people by the collar of their shirt and have them sing with him. He also grabbed me and took me on stage and we finished Mother. the next song, he stood on top of the club's PA system, which is a good 10 or 12 feet up and started howling as if he were a wolf on a cliff, after that, he got down, got to the catwalk, sang with some people, then dove, ran to the bar, slid across the counter, and sang with a couple drunk girls, after that, it was back to the catwalk. I wish I could remember the name of the band so I could look for the video of that night.

I hate duets.
Especially, Shania Twain and Bryan White
or Barbara Streisand and Bryan White
or ANYBODY and Bryan White

I just have to disagree, you're generalizing too much.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yccFV9dS ... re=related

These guys were local to me, and they're amazing, actually. Honestly, they broke the awful hair metal stereotype. And from what my mom said (from knowing them) they were very humble and very down to earth. She said they had taken whole clubs of people home and done parties, or smaller concerts at their houses with them, and they didn't care who you were, if you were there, you were a friend. Give them a listen.

Oasis is utter tripe and shouldn't even be taken seriously.
