I like real blues, none of that sissy blues (I wont name artist, as I'll most likely become the most hated member on this forum, but lets just say they dont sound 'blue') and in the past couple of months I'm really getting into folk. I guess it all comes under root's music though, doesn't it?

If you want real Blues, by that I assume traditional original Blues then you'd best hurry since most of the original Blues players are dead and gone.
There's only a handful left and they will probably not be around in 2020....

Last I heard Elizabeth Cotton was no longer touring, Memphis Minnie is still waiting for the Levee to be repaired and Willie Dixon went to the Crossroads and is still on an Extended Walkabout..

Seriously though, current music is an interpretation of past music which itself was interpretations of what preceded them. I always  when the call for purism come out. You are asking for sterile musical renditions...Play it exactly as it was played, no emotion, no personal interpretation.
Imagine if Joshua Bell, Anne Sophie Mutter, Nadja Salerno Sonnenberg, Itzhak Pearlman and countless others would just play a recital in the strictest sense of the word. Half the audience would be out the door before intermission.

Folk itself is a hodgepodge of influences reaching back to american colonials days and then across to Europe and various other parts of the globe. :?
Rock.... well that is a Petrie dish experiment gone virile, good luck identifying various elements and pinpointing its lineage....

It's all rather unnecessary, as soon as you or I or any musician strikes a note which is heard by an audience of One or a Million, it ceases to be your own personal note and becomes the listeners interpretation, regardless wether that person is a musician or an accountant.
We all hear differently, thus process sounds in our own unique modes.

My rather belabored point is that the prevalent theme seems to be a need to categorize each and every band and piece of music into a neat little box with hangtags...
Just enjoy music for what it is, it doesn't need to be pigeonholed.
There are so many names for different styles or Genre's ( hate that word ) of music that to research their definition would preclude actually listening and enjoying music just for it's sake.

I feel much better now.... :?

P.S. I am a bit concerned of a self described traditionalist fronting an avatar of a Psychotic Trigger Happy Feline....... :?

"Real blues"? Real blues is any form of blues I feel like playing.

Believe me, I totally agree, I've kinda lost faith in the whole genre's term aswell. It's just that when people call 'x' and 'x' the gods of blue's, I do get just a tad annoyed.
