Haha - love the thread title!

Any suggestions on how to handle this?

If you can prove it, go see a lawyer and find out how much it will cost to do something about it.

If you can't prove it - learn the lesson for the future.

I'm glad to hear you got your bass back at least.

Good luck - C

Hard to believe (or not) that good old Chumlee is Rick's "other" son.

As far as a Pawn Shop with Ethics, good luck on that! Did you get your hoodie back?

I'd rather work a month at Burger King for extra cash than pawn any of my gear.
I would just move on and take it as a lesson learned.

I think an ethical pawn shop would be an oxymoron. It seems like you need to take a shower after even going into one of those places and dealing with them.

"Where there's smoke, there's fire!"

...you can always have somebody else bring in a well documented instrument, preferably one professional witness (two people will deter them), bring out the best in them during the transaction, let it bake and see what flies when the instrument is picked up at a later date and time.

If they did this to you, they'll do it again, and this should not be allowed to happen again!

"Where there's a will, there's a way," or an attorney and... !

You'd be doing a public service in your community and maybe prove your case and get compensated for your losses!

That is deplorable, particularly if what you believe happened actually happened. And if this pawn shop can be stopped they should be. This would be a public service in your community , however you will never be compensated as you suffered no loss:

Anyway...the finish did buff out. The scratches were only down to the clearcoat.

Sadly, you can't be compensated for your outrage. I wouldn't go near that place again.

Do you mean 'honorary son'? I though Chumlee was Corey's childhood friend, Austin Russell.

Glad that you have your bass guitar back CW. I agree that you shouldn't visit that particular pawn shop again 8)

Well, I know what they say on TV and all, but Rick and Chum were here at the Riverside Casino doing their "pawn shop" thing together. If you weren't related to Chum, would you want to travel around the country with him...? Yikes.

The first thing I do when I leave a pawn shop (and, no, I would never, ever pawn any of my gear) is hit the hand sanitizer as soon as I'm back in the truck. You are always better off being a buyer at a pawn shop than being a pawner.

Yes, you can be compensated for your outrage, it's called punitive damages, plus expenses related to the damage and, or devaluation of the item due to the damage and repair if it's still usable.

What occurred sounds to me like it was punitive in nature and there was some damage and expense involved, time is money, and the account needs to be settled, and this sort of thing should be dealt with hard n' fast.

I had a similar experience at a local pawn shop. But, I'd go back there if I had to but will have the instrument well documented first, which I didn't do last time... Criminals usually can't resist their behaviors and I have no doubt they'd try and screw me if they thought they could get away with it, meanwhile, despite the risk, the item would be in one of the safest places in the region and there is accountability there.

So...never say you wouldn't under the worst circumstances... ...you've got a choice between fly-by-night pawn shops and one established pawn shop with issues and you're hard-up for cash quick and want to help somebody out...wut do you do??? Sell it for a loss or pay dah man his fee hoping for the better, getting it back as presented, and helping out somebody in the process.

Put um on the grill chef!

Nah. It hurt my feelings, mostly.

oh. You are humble *and* forgiving, nice, my kind o' people. What you described was punitive in nature and ticked me off and I'd like not to see that happen to somebody else, including me!

Thanks for sharing. If I'm ever in that situation again, I'll document the item, for sure.

I am sorry you had to go through that experience.
