Greetings gentlemen!

Im curious if anyone can suggest to me a noise reduction/noise gate pedal…….or even if they work or not?

I have several amps buts the ones im currently using the most are the Peavey Vyper, The Fender Cyber Twin SE and the G-dec 15 (currently the blues pre-sets loaded)

I can get some wicked hum and buzz off a lot of my settings regardless of the Guitars im using, I do believe the wiring in my house isn't the greatest however I do get the hum and buzz at other friends houses and such so I know the problem isn't entirely that.

The main culprit is my MIM Strat, I had installed some CS-69's, and while I knew going into the change these Pups are noisy, the hum and buzz make the majority of my settings unusable…..and it’s a shame because the tones are sooooooooooooooooooo sweet……but im even getting nasty buzz on a lot of clean settings!!!

My other MIM Strat has the stock Pups, still get a lot of Buzz but can be lived with, of course the Les Paul and SG for the most part are silent unless I really crank the gain up!, but my other single coils buzz a lot as well……..Mustang, Jazz master……………..

SO………..Do these noise reduction peddles work? And if so could you recommend me a decent one to try.

Thanks

The Boss Noise Suppressor works great. I don't have one, but I've tried one and demoed them for people before. They make a huge difference.

If it's that mains supply buzz then the Electro-Harmonix Hum De-bugger is a handy pedal. it has two settings normal and strong depending on how severe the mains buzzing is. it's not a noise gate this, it cuts out that annoying buzzing from the mains power but it isn't a typical noise gate. It's quite handy though.

+1 on the Hum Debugger. Simple, effective, the best of its kind that I tried.

So, I picked up the The Boss Noise Suppressor last night, got er all set up and well………it works…..but…..for me, I have to use it to such extreams that it cuts notes off, takes away all sustain and alters the tone in a very noticable way, and not in the good way lol….
Ok, back the the drawing board -
Im thinking of trying one of these -

Anyone have any experience with these?

That's not a noise suppressor on the link, i don't think. What about the Hum De-Bugger? If it's single coil hum and buzz emanating from the combination of mains power and guitar you'd be better trying that.

My understanding is that one of the possible problems is that the wiring in the house (and some others as well) is not grounded properly, so the power that’s coming into the amp is so called "Dirty power" and this can cause excess buzz?

I was told these Art pro items will clean up the power going to the amp and thus clean up the buzz?

If it doesn't work then I order in the De-Bugger or the Decimator I guess and hope they don’t use the same technology as the Boss.

Hey thanks to everyone who has replied!

In truth any noise suppressor will leech some tone. I watched one of the debugger demos on the EHX website and it was entirely noticeable.

I would try the wall device you mentioned. Another thing to consider might be what type of patch cables you are using. Cheaper ones can produce some pretty irritable noise. Just some food for thought.

The Hum Debugger sounds like a notch filter. If it is that would definitely affect tone.

You're not using speaker cables on your guitar are you? I know that's a dumb question but it could happen. I use 100% shielded instrument cable from planet waves.

Does the noise go away when you turn the guitar volume down? If so, then a power distribution system is not likely to help.

First the dumb question. Does it make all that racket without a guitar plugged into it? Did you try your guitar in another amp or try a friends guitar in your amp?
Like I said the first time try the ISP Decimator.
