Remember in a bar you're just providing noise while people get drunk. Don't go in expecting people will be there to see you. No offense, thats just how it is.

If you play an all ages show then you'll probably pull in more "fans" but in a bar its tough because your music is typically the secondary thing people are there for not the main reason (which is to drink).

Don't blow your drink tickets too early either. It takes a little while to learn to play well when you're loaded. You wouldn't want your first show to be sloppy. At least if it is a disaster it wasn't your fault, right.

well I get the whole secondary noise thing ...Im 23 and have spent the last couple years spending my weekends and sometimes weekdays in the bars listening to the bands... what songs are crowd favorites... what are good communication methods with the audience and just things like that... I also been paying attention to what makes a sucessful bar act... and it's not nessicarly the best band in my experience...I mean you have to be good...but eventho your the secondary noise..you need to work the crowd... alot has to do with song selection vs the crowd you have...I been doing my homework and my fair share of drinking.. ha ha

Relax and forget the people in the bar are even there. Just keep an eye on your band mates and remember what it feels like playing at practice with them all. You have a good time, right? Then you'll have a good time at the gig.

Excellent! Do it again when you have your first gig. It's all about performing well and having fun.
