There's this thing called the Internet and a number of different, very efficient search engines - one's called Google.

Good luck with your research. Let us know what you find out!

Did a quick search and nothing found. Did a search on "Fender Production numbers" and found no useful info.

Where it has so many models and crosses over so many genres of music,I'd hazard a guess that the Strat has the edge, but as for an official count I wouldn't know where you could even begin to look.

Good question Easy! I'm curious to know what the production numbers are too.

Good luck with your essay!

confused why the fact this guys a newby would mean we shouldnt reply to him? Doesnt seem to be trying to sell anything.

I just quickly tried to find out and i gather Fender doesnt release its sales figures, and hasnt done since 1970? Seems to be some data about fender sales vs gibson and you may be able to find the total fender sales, but to compare the sales of two guitars seems like it will be a dead end. I would hazard a guess that the strat outsells the tele by some way though.

Suppose you could always PM one of the fender employees who comes on here? Wouldnt be at all suprised if its the sort of information they wouldnt just give out, but you never know.

It's a typical troll question. Makes no sense, stirs up, and you see we're already discussing the issue.

Cheers

Really? I don't see a reason to take it at anything other than face value. Just a kid looking for some help with a school assignment, no?

Anyway...

Hello, EasyNameToRemember. Many people would be interested to know Fender's sales figures across the product range but unfortunately that is what's known as "commercially sensitive information", and they haven't given out official numbers for decades, if ever.

However, it is well attested that the Strat outsells other models by a long way. I don't know how Telecaster sales compare to Gibson Les Pauls (the major commercial rival), but the Strat is miles ahead of both of them. That much the Company has been prepared to reveal in guitar magazine interviews and other such places over the years.

Still, there are some interesting stats to be had about the instrument industry. As we all know, Fender are the largest guitar manufacturer in the world, with Gibson in second position. And if Fender's Custom Shop were a free-standing company it would qualify as the sixth biggest global guitar maker in its own right. Which is quite something.

However, in the league of instrument makers as a whole, Fender are well back from the lead. Here are some thought-provoking figures:

http://www.musictrades.com/global.html

As we see, Fender are only in fifth place: Roland are twice as big as Fender and Yamaha are seven times larger. Clearly, the really fat money is in electronic music related gizmos. Shaping timber pays less.

Plenty of material there for a school essay...

Cheers - C

You could take a large musical instrument retailer, eg. Guitar Center or Musicians Friend, and try finding out sale numbers for those retailers. You may well run into the same problems as with whole Fender sales though. :(

Good luck!

The number of topics and posts on the Telecaster / Stratocaster forums gives a fair indication.
Strat by at least x 4.

-2. Just because somebody signed up to get info about Fender, not to "socialize", *does not* mean they are trolls or salespeople. "That's sill-lee."

...how many people have been pushed away due to such ignorance?, seriously -- that sort of thinking and those sorts of statements are not very hospitable and give the forum a bad rep if you ask me.
