I finally got around to shooting my Gibson 60's Tribute. I'm just starting to get some lighting ideas together. I'm still working on it. It's a really nice guitar, real plain Jane.

Thanks guys, I'm still working on the lighting. I love that guitar, it can co from sweet to serious bite with the twist of the volume dial. The tone controls have a really nice range too. I bought it on a whim. I tried it out with a DRRI and almost took both of them home. I usually bring my own amp if I'm serious about buying a guitar, but I liked the way it looked and the action and tone were perfection for me. It Sounds incredible with all my amps too. I got real lucky.
I'm going to do some shots of my 57 Dano U1 too.

Supro...your just starting to get ideas about lighting for the pic? Holy Crap, you must be the Ansel Adams of this forum...that thing looks perfect :!: :!: :!:

Oh and nice guitar too! I love the look and tone of those but when I finally decided to go get one, the only they had sounded kind of dead (suprised me too as most I had played sounded fantastic), so I punted to a Les Paul Studio Faded...now if I could just photograph 1/8 that good I would be happy!

It is a nice shot but to me looks just a bit flat. I'd like to see the strong light on the left moved forward some and the background a little darker but that's MHO. Lovely guitar.

Thanks for the critique Arc, that's really what I look for when I post this stuff. Like I said, I just started playing with it. Could use a little more contrast, wouldn't call it flat. Looks a little snappier on my dual monitors I have them both calibrated with the Colormunki system. Also, the problem is lowering the resolution for the internet and my color space is for printing, not the internet. The guitar itself has no real gloss to speak of, but I'm still going to get more specular highlights in the bridge and knobs. I'm using a pretty large softbox so getting much closer without getting it in the shot isn't really possible.

Thanks guys, That's a Honeyburst finish. They had a few, this was a bit darker than the others. I usually don't care too much about color and finishes.

Cool. If I was there I could show you in an instant. I feel the main left light should be moved forward but not towards the guitar. I think you need more of an oblique angle with the light to the front of the guitar. That way you could pick up some of the shape on the top of the body and maybe get some more shadows working for you. Maybe try your light box without a diffuser if you are using one to get some more direct light. Just some thoughts

Of course art is subjective and my opinions are just that. You took a nice shot.

Edit: Looking at it again, you are making good use of shadow.

Oh yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about, I've been doing this stuff for a living for close to 25 years. I have a studio outside of Philadelphia also want to show a little bit of the side, but I have a lot of product work in the studio using a lot of my supports and I'm afraid of dumping my guitar on the floor. You won't get any highlight on the edges of the guitar because it's a really flat finish. It bugs me a little. There's shadows on my original raw file. The diffuser stays because I don't want any hot spots on the guitar.
