I have known this guy for almost 20 years and I have tried everything I can do to help him. Unfortunately, he has a problem with prescription drugs, (Bars) and recently got into shooting Heroin because the girl he was living with was doing it. He is currently on probation and he text'd me the other saying he might of come up dirty on his drug test.

His phone is shut off and they do that when you get arrested.

Hope I don't come across as some old fart preaching, but I have done about every drug ever made and I have learned through my experiences that it's very sad to lose a friend to drugs.

But at some point, you have to man up, stand up, and grow up!

I know how you feel. My best friend was taken away this past February for drugs. He's currently straightening himself out. Best of luck to you and your friend.

Once a smack head always a smack head. I've walked away from
A few friends that went and did that stuff. I advise you to do the same.

Walk away. He'll have bad company around him, and you don't want to become part of things you can't control. Guns, drugs, dealers, violence ... don't go there. Tell him he has to stop if he wants to be your friend.

People that managed getting off the hook can become good friends, because they know what it's worth. But don't go near while they ride the white horse.

Cheers

David

Don't walk away but do be careful. Addicts are notorious liars and manipulators. They don't mean to be but the only thing that is important to them is how to get the next fix.

It sounds like you know how hard it is to quit. Your friend needs help and yes, he needs to "man up, stand up, and grow up". He will never quit until he develops the will to quit, and even then he may not be successful.

But if he is willing to try he'll need all the help he can get. Until he wis willing to try keep your distance but keep in touch.

You hit on the head bro.....my brother got involved with smoking and shooting oxycontin and he would lie straight to my face, but I saw right through him though.I have nothing against people who have to take that medication legitimately cause I have taken it for my back injury but only exactly as prescribed.I told him he was not allowed around my children nor my house until he could straighten up his act.He doesn't come around anymore cause I won't give him money,I watched him go from a cool brother to a pathological lier in months.People who get hooked like that do become master manipulaters and liers.I am here for him as soon as he comes to me and says he needs help, but until than, I unfortunately am out a brother and my kids are out an uncle.Very sad situation. To the OP.....I hope your friend is ok.I will say a prayer for him bro

@scarleg: you are showing your love by doing it like this. It takes great courage to be very clear on this subject.

Cheers

Don,t walk away from a freind. He needs held and can't do it his self. Be careful for sure. Would you do nothing if someone put a gun to your freinds head. I wouldn't.

I have a brother who has been an addict most of his life. For years he was content with booze, but then he discovered the pain killers and realized he could get high on two or three pills and not have to spend all that time ingesting beer. My father and brothers and I have all tried to help him many times, but in the end he steals whatever isn't tied down and hocks it to buy more pain meds. Right now we have no idea where he is.

You can't help them until they are ready to help themselves and some of them, sadly, will die before they reach that point.

i've done all forms of the powder. i am not proud to say this but it is true. the only way i quit was to completely distance myself from the "friends" who knew where to get it. i still drink too much beer but even that is getting old. i need to cut down and i know it. depression can be a biotch.
i disagree with some previous posts. i'd tell the dude look man, i've tried to help you. if you can't help yourself, you need to forget my phone number. i did this to a friend i played guitar with for 15 years or more. always the same story. guitar/amp in pawn shop. let me "borrow" the cash to get my stuff or let me play thru yours. he never paid me back in cash, it was always dope. i told him point blank to never call me again.
i know you are trying to be a good buddy. i say the dude doesn't deserve a friend like you. i know i'm a cold-hearted SOB but i don't care. i'd tell him not to come around if he is high. that will tell you how much he values your friendship.

I lost a good friend who fried his brain on coke and got to the point that he was highly paranoid and delusional,to the point that he thought that there was a hit put out on him by the FBI and CIA-even though we live in Canada.Anyway his brother came home from work one day and found that he had hanged himself in the basement.

Some physicians are prescribing highly addictive narcotics such as Oxy-Contin much to freely without fully understanding the slippery path they are putting the patient on as after a couple of weeks use the patient becomes physically addicted to them and by this time the doctors have cut them off the meds without properly weaning the patient off them thus creating a huge problem in that the person then resorts to buying the drugs on the street.

A lot of times a med such as Atasol 30 or Tramacet would bring appropriate pain relief without nearly the ill effects of the strong opiate based meds, yet many doctors insist on using the highest powered, most addictive analgesics available.

so sad to hear all of these stories.

There are so many people that i know of that either smoke, drink, take drugs, (prescriptioned or home made), and get upto all sorts of wrong sight business if you know what i mean. this is put into perspective when i tell you that i am only sixteen and so are they. these people just ruin there own lives and then spread the misery. this isnt so common at my school but there still are the select few that come to school totally smashed.

i suppose that living in a small town means that the whole culture spreads very easily.

it depresses to think about the topic and hear these stories.
