It couldn’t hurt to subscribe to an industry magazine such as “Guitar Player.”

There are so many styles and genres of music that it could be overwhelming to try to absorb of the available resources. I would concentrate on reliable and respectably reviewed material in relations to instruction on technique and applicable theory that directly relates to the music you desire.

An inspiring and respected teacher would be a great idea if you want some assessment and physical direction.

No matter what plan of action you chose, you will need to invest the time in a disciplined regime. But you will be surprised how quickly music can evolve, if you are inspired and having fun. :D

P.S. You have chosen an awesome guitar.

I don't know how old you are, but if you don't want to spend years doing the self taught thing, lessons would be the way to go. There's no faster way to leran things the right way upfront. Use a book and it might be a few years before you notice that your technique is off. With an instructor, you get feedback on the spot and won't develop those bad habits that will need to be unlearned later on.

has some good lessons, as does
http://www.fenderplayersclub.com/

But I agree about signing up for some lessons, it will advance you faster than trying to figure things out on your own.

The KISS guide to playing the guitar is a good book to use.

Welcome. Dig it.

Personal two fave learning tips both came from that great 20th century American philosopher, Frank Zappa.

"Shut up and play your guitar."

and

"Shut up and play your guitar some more."
