I am hunting down a decent body for my ordered neck. so I was wondering if any of you other forum members did this on the side, or for a living? I would much rather support someone on here than buy all-parts or mighty mite. I have tried cutting them out on my own but I can never get the routing or contours correct. I am just looking for basic ash or alder in a butterscotch blonde or honey blonde nitro. if not I will just get one of the mass produced variants

I was going to try and build a body myself but after I thought about it I figured it just wasn't worth the expense for tools and materials. I then thought I should just buy a body and then finish it myself and build a guitar from there. Then I thought I'd buy a finished body and build it up from there. Then I went out and bought a new Strat. I saved myself a lot of work I think.

It ain't about savin' work, time or money. It's about the love and passion for the guitar  .

Its not that easy for me unfortunately :P the love and passion I have for my wife prevents me from buying the equipment needed to make one. well that and the fear of her noose around my neck  if I bought all that just to make a guitar body, you would surely be reading my obituary soon after

It looks as though I will have to resort to the Ebay :? it will be a while before I find anything, so if someone has the ability I have some funds

I was going through the process because of the passion and was thinking of making guitars as a side job for extra cash. I quickly found out that you need to be able to produce exceptional guitars of high quality to make a buck at it and without a reputation that would be a tall order for someone like me who is just starting out. I kept my day job.

I have a friend who's passion for building guitars my be damaging his marriage. He can't really afford to do what he's doing and just keeps going deeper into debt. I helped him out a little by buying and amp from him but he just turned around and bought one for over 3 times the price I bought his old one for. Some peoplejust don't know how to stop spending.

Are you talking about me? I can't quit buying guitars and amps. My marriage is fine, but my wife knows I have a problem, my kids know I have a problem and even my grandsons are starting to think I have a problem.

Of course, the son and grandsons aren't giving me any grief about it - they figure they'll end up with all my gear...

The guitars from last December...

I have Ron Kirn's Strat and Tele templates and have cut quite a few of those bodies (as well as done some of my own stuff). After having done it for about 2 years, I decided that I was tired of doing and sold everything but my router. Now I just buy the body from either Warmoth or B. Hefner. B. Hefner will take usually 2-3 weeks to get it to you and is cheaper than Warmoth. They are Fender licensed. They just don't have the many options that Warmoth has. Still, they offer all that I need. I'm currently doing a Mary Kay Strat with one of their 50's body and a handmade neck. I definitely recommend using B. Hefner to get a good body at a price that is extremely reasonable.

It's good to get positive feedback about those two vendors. They were the two I got down to before I gave up and just bought new. Other vendors didn't give me a very good feeling about what I would end up with.

I often receive E-mail-ers from B-Hefner and have yet to order form them but I may have to order a 60's three bolt neck from them as I am unable to find one for a reasonable cost .

This would be for the Stratopartster Build IV of which I will be glueing up the bookmatched figured maple tops in the next couple of days.

Holy Schmoly! That's a lot of bucks for a non-Fender (Fender licensed) body!

A guy could probably buy the right guitar for parts for that much... and that's JUST the body - nothing else.

Of course, you can do as I do, and buy the body for $125, get the paint (http://www.reranch.com), and do just as good a job for 1/3 the cost. Finishing work is priced outrageously for what it is.

contact Marc Rutters. the man has some of the best swamp ash ever. very light weight, grainy, resonant and loud unplugged like an acoustic guitar. otherwise you can't go wrong with Musikraft. I use either Rutters or Musikraft for all of my builds.

Hi BizarreDude: I've been known to make the occasional Strat body now and again. The moment I saw your thread I got working on one for you and am halfway through it. A one-piece ash body with an outrageously flamey maple front - that OK? Nearly ready to start lacquering it.

Oh, wait a second:

Seems I've been wasting my time! Oh well, onto the fire it goes. Huh...

Cheers - C

 my bad...... I got so involved with loading the thing and planing, that I forgot about this :? But it was not all in vein, this question would have come up again when I do another one

I was really looking for swamp ash but I couldn't pass up the candy apple red and perfect weight  but a swamp ash Blue Transparent build is in the future :D
