My wife and I have put our house on the market, time to downsize. Our realtor called last Thursday and asked if another realtor could take a couple through our house on Friday evening. We said no problem, we will be out of town overnight anyway, so no big deal.

I made sure all my guitars and gear were in cases. I had a Squier Tele in a utility room on a stand, the only one i don't have a case for as it is a test bed for pickups and such. I also had all my amps in the utility room as well.

We get home early Sat. afternoon, and I notice someone helped themselves to some candy on the kitchen table. No biggie, I like candy too. I go down to the mancave to run over some songs for that evening, and what do I find? Someone was in my case I keep my favorite Martin in. I look in the utility room to find someone went through a gear bag and found a cable, took my Tele off the stand and plugged into an amp, and left the Tele leaning against the amp. I am extremely upset to say the least   .

We texted our realtor and are waiting for a response. I intend to contact the other agents office and report this. The agent had no reason to allow the other party to fool around with my stuff. Sorry for the long rant but it's Sunday and I'm still furious. Anyone else have this happen to them?

If it was your realtor that allowed this, fire them...today.

How dare? Some morons have no sense of private property. It is a total lack of respect and a disgrace to do things like that. I hope you can get to the bottom of this and pass the message to the offender.

So someone played your Tele into your amp and your only gripes are that you weren't there and that they stood the guitar against the amp.

If it helps get an easy, quick sale of your house, are you that worried?

No SK, my realtor does'nt play guitar. I have talked to people who have been victims of home break ins and they say they feel "violated", I now know what they mean. To me this is like someone taking another mans wife for a "test drive".

I don't even pickup a guitar without asking permission first whether it's in a store or another player. This is just rude behavior, and i do not tolerate rude behavior. I have thirteen guitars and two mandolins, some expensive (to me), and some not as expensive. I am going to try to remain civil unless I get no satisfaction, after that the gloves come off  .

ABSOLUTELY GODDAMM RIGHT!

And be sure to spread the word......if you're lucky, perhaps this incident will cost the realtor his or her license.

:x

I don't think it was my realtors fault, the agent we are dealing with is my wife's cousin, and she knows how I feel about my guitars. I am laying the responsibility on the other realtors agent. To my way of thinking the agent taking a buyer through my house is responsible for their actions. I can understand the need to look into a closet or kitchen cabinet, but to use my personal belongings is just plain wrong. And yes Arjay the agent should lose their license, or at least get a couple weeks off without pay.

This is wrong on so many levels! I get pissed just thinking about it. I couldn't imagine shopping for a house and just making myself at home like that.

What kind of knuckle dragging troglodyte would go into a strangers house, see a guitar case, open it, take the guitar out, rummage around till you found a cable, and plug it into an amp! And then leave it all out as if to say, "Yeah, that's right! I messed with your junk! So what?"

Any real estate agent that would allow this seriously needs to be in another business that doesn't allow access to private property. I recommend making little rocks out of big rocks.

For the remainder of the time the house is on the market, remove your gear for 10 minutes, take some photos of the (reasonably) empty room, put your stuff back, lock the door and tape the photos onto the door.
Explain to your wife's friend that the room is inaccessible to anyone unless you're there.
The other agent should suffer some consequence... gassin' for a new stompbox or something?... hmmmm.... that new Boss multi-effects rig is really nice... quiet too 8)

I wouldn't like it either.
I was backstage at the Opry one time and was talking to another guitar player,he had a guitar in a case sitting between us and was tuning another...along came the drummer who stopped, unlatched the case, looked inside and picked up the vintage Tele, looked at it for a minute and sat it back in and closed the case and walked off without saying a word to either of us....we just looked at each other in disbelief, the other guy said,"I would never do that! ...it was like the guy had just walked up and fondled a girlfriend....
Most musicians I'm around do not tolerate it,so the jerk who came into your house and did that needs to be told to keep his damn hands off another man's property, and I would also report the agent....with a lot of strong words.

Randy, if you're agent is a Realtor, this will be taken care of to your satisfaction. Although it can't be undone a Realtor will make it better if possible.
I was one, and had certain guidelines for looking at property, follow me, stay together, do not touch anything, and under certain circumstances, please remove your foot-wear.
In the 20 years that I had an active license I only had one near miss.
An agent from another office that I had recently closed a deal with called me and said "the vacant residential lot that his customers had purchased from my sellers had an 8 foot slab of concrete, 16 feet below the surface at the front of the property (an under-lying encroachment) and that his customers wanted to be compensated for the removal of the concrete slab else they would sue". I said "tell your customers that as a licensed real estate agent I was endowed with many virtues but x-ray vision was not one of them". Then I said, "the clear title and soil boring samples provided by their attorney show no such encroachment". The other agent paused for a moment and then said that he would talk with his customers then get back to me, he never did.
In all honesty, for you, it was probably the remnant of a barn on this particular property but when I went to the planning department at city hall even the original documents from when the farm was subdivided (early 20th century) showed no encroachments of any kind.
Randy think of what you want to make it right. Whether a full price offer on your property or an apology letter or whatever it may be. Tell your agent and they'll make it happen.

After you sic your agent on the offending parties may I suggest a few well placed nanny cams? Should there be another incident, you will have all the documentation you need to burn the offending parties.
Sucks to have to do business that way, but some slobs just have no respect.
