It's no revelation, but the first time I played a Martin D-35 I couldn't believe how much the entire body vibrated. It was like the whole thing was singing.

A 1979 fretless P-bass with a maple neck. Whoever had owned it had the action set perfectly and it played like glass. It was as if that bass had been made just for me -- fit my hand and style perfectly.

The sound was terrific as well, though I didn't have much chance to mess around with the amp settings. I saw it at a place called Bernunzio's in Rochester, NY a couple of years ago but didn't try it until just before the friend I was visiting (and I) had to leave. Still, I'd log onto their Web site now and then (back here in LA) and just drool ... it finally sold a few months ago.

My son's Mexican Fat Strat. It certainly changed my mind about what an electric guitar is. I had never played one or handled one before. I loved it. Ten days later I had my own, a standard.

The coolest guitar I've every played was a very old Hagstrom Viking many, many years ago. I don't know the year of its manufacture, but it was obviously quite old. There was lots of weatherchecking in the finish and the hardware was just about rusting off. But the thing had massive tone and put out an awesome vibe. I should have bought it!

I had a similar exprerience of a guitar speaking to me.

It said 'You can't afford me, put me back!'

Ian: The guitar told me that too, but I bought it anyway.

 I usually buy one and SNEAK it into my studio and by the time my wife sees me playing it, it's too late. I usually get yelled at for a minute, but then she goes away and it's back to shreddin. Damn wives...

I hid my Blues Junior for 3 months! (I was lugging it to gigs and practices, but to the untrained wife, all amps look the same!)

The guilt was eating me up and I had to come clean!

I've played very few guitars. It would actually have to be my first
It's an acoustic Jay Jr. I still love the sound and it looks like it's been through a shredder or something - scratches everywhere.

I got cut off late last night with this post. Back in '86 I played a White and Black Jackson off set Flying V HH with floating Tremelo. I was young and very new to guitars. The guy that owned it could wale and make it scream. When I played it I made it sound like it was hurt. What I could do with that guitar today if it was still around.

about 20 years ago I played a rickenbacker 12 string (i don't know model numbers for those things) anyway all i remember is that it was too bleeping expensive and I played it through a mesa/boogie combo amp then a marshall stack.
