Well Doyle Dykes was in our remote part of the world tonight. He was doing a Guild guitars clinic and the man played for like two hours. I was shocked that I never heard about him before, but that mistake is now corrected. If you are lucky enough to have him do a clinic or a show in your hometown, go see him. It was a total blast tonight and now I have gas for a Guild guitar.

He's great, very personable and witty..
I saw 2 years ago at Wakefield Music in RI, he played with his daughter and the venue sits perhaps 50 people max so it was a great evening, got to meet him and chat with him for a few minutes.

Doyle Dykes is just fab. When he gets going with that "harping" thing and throws in the bends behind the nut - oh man! What fingers!

He doesn't come my direction often enough: I'd crawl over hot coals to be in the front row when Doyle's playing. Very cool. 8)

Cheers - C

I had the chance to chat with him after the clinic, but I didn't know about his business with Taylor guitars. He clearly is with Fender/Guild now. Anyways, he's a great finger picker for sure and I'm glad I had the chance to meet him.

The youtube link is amazing. I used to subscribe to "Fingerstyle" magazine and each issue came with a CD. I still have them all. I think Doyle Dykes was featured on one issue.

A really good fingerstyle guitarist is a joy to see, at least for me. It is a style of playing that seems the furthest from my grasp and at the same time it strikes me as the most 'complete' style of playing.

During the clinic he joked, told stories, encouraged questions and answered them graciously. He played six or seven Guilds and one Telecaster. After the clinic I bought two CDs, one DVD and his book. It cost me less than a ticket for a show and as I said the whole evening was a blast. He's definitely on my fav list now.

I've got his book but had to give up on it, it was too hard for me  He's a virtuoso that guy, up there with guys like Chet and Lenny.
