I've heard of Warmoth and Carvin, but I don't think I've ever seen something like this that is so insanely cheap priced...

Build a clone Strat for $113 bucks?!?

This has got to be a joke... Or, is this totally for real?

Hi Butch: you get that the Saga Strat is made from cream cheese, right? As cream cheese goes I think $113 is quite expensive...

for the quality of parts it is expensive  I made the mistake of buying one of those a few years ago....... It ended up in the garbage. the neck pocket was cut at an angle and the fretwork was god awful. it needed a total re-fret to salvage and was not worth the trouble.

also whatever they cote those things in is impervious to any chemical form of removal

I have built a Saga kit. My experience was good. The hardware is cheap, but the woodwork was good on my kit. But I have bought better kits before, so check out http://www.grizzly.com/products/category/235040 I think you may get better use of a kit like these! The kit, regardless of who made it, will turn out only as good as YOU can assemble it and set it up ;) I have built 1 Saga kit and 3 Grizzly kits! The pickups in both brands are cheap, but the Grizzly Tele-style kit was made with stock parts entirely and it turned out pretty darn good! In any case, the hardest part (well, the part that is usually rushed by most) is finishing the wood. This can be very time consuming, depending on how meticulous you are, and what finish type you wish to apply. A simple sanding, staining and varnish/clear coat would be fast. A proper color coat that has good gloss will take much surface prep, sanding between layers, drying time, wet sanding and buffing ;) But this is half the fun! I enjoyed it. You probably will too.

I guess i was just very unlucky :? a badly misaligned neck pocket is something that is hard to correct. also the neck I got was in a way a reverse compound radius neck. it got flatter towards the top

if you could pick from several kits and select one that's good it may be an ok deal.

I recently built the Saga Telecaster kit and to be honest, I was surprised. It plays and sounds ok. Not great, but if your a tinker'er, do it!

The Grizzly kits are pretty darned good. The owner of Grizzly is a guitar building fanatic, so I don't see him selling inferior product. These are usually on sale in the spring flyer.

And the pickups in those kits, along with the loaded pickguards Grizzly also sells, are well above cheapo quality - I've swapped several into MIM Strats.

I've never met either Grizzly or Saga kit guitars in real life so I don't know. But if things like the neck pocket and the fretting are reliable then this is amazing value for money:

A whole guitar for around the cost of just the raw timber if you were to build from scratch. Blimey. At that price I guess you don't get to complain about the quality of the hardware...
