Did great Becks. :D

Was ya a little tight in the beginning? I can't imagine that kind of pressure.

She was the first one up, and I don't think she had enough volume to get a groove going. Talk about stress, the last one up was from N. Calif. and couldn't get his peddle board to work at first. I saw pure terror in his face for a couple of seconds.

It's tough getting on stage and to do it with this kind of pressure?

Humm. I wish I was good enough.

From what we can hear here- I agree. More volume, or perhaps some more drive/overdrive somewhere in the set-up. The acoustic was great! :D
Thanks ,Drew - I think the video was great

Hey Drew, thanks for posting the video and the update. I've been out of it since the contest. In fact, I just woke up a couple of hours ago from a 14 hour nap.

We arrived in L.A. on Wednesday and Guitar Center provided us with rooms in an extremely nice hotel within walking distance of the venue. On Thursday, I met the other contestants when they drove us out to the Flagship Guitar Center on Sunset in Hollywood. Honestly, all that "Keep Austin Weird" stuff doesn't hold a candle to Hollywood! Austin seemed perfectly normal... Anyway, we recorded our video interviews there and got to hang out in their Artist Relations room. They also broke out Eddie Van Halen's actual Frankenstein guitar and let us play it and take pictures with it. It felt surprisingly similar to my Forum Caster actually.

Friday was our free day, and my parents and I walked to the Grammy Museum as our touristy thing to do for the day. After that, I just practiced.

On the day of the show, we had an extremely brief sound check. For most of my sound check, I had absolutely no monitors. They fixed it in the end, and I repeatedly asked them to make sure the monitors were on and working when I played at the actual show since I was going to be first up. Well that didn't happen and the sound guy had the monitors completely turned off for half of my electric guitar song for the real performance. I should have reached around and turned the amp up, or stopped playing and made some sort of signal, but in the moment neither of those things occurred to me. When he finally did turn the monitor up, I could still barely hear myself. It sounded like I was playing through a five watt practice amp with a full blown stereo going over me. So when they release the Guitar Center video, I'm sure they'll have all the levels right and you'll be able to hear me playing a ton of wrong notes in the beginning when I couldn't hear anything.

When we were changing to the acoustic song, I made sure they turned up the monitors so I could hear myself for that one. I might have upset the sound guy telling him to turn it up, because apparently it was too loud in the front of house. I had to cut it a little short, because I think I paused too long in the intro. I actually haven't been able to bring myself to watch the video yet. I know I could have done so much better and been so much more comfortable if the sound had been right. I'm really not upset about not winning, and the guy who won (Boscoe France) was awesome and a lot of fun to hang out with. I'm really just upset by the fact that I didn't get my best foot forward in front of thousands of people. I still may not have won, but at least I would have been able to say that I did my best. It's a lesson learned, but I wish I didn't have to learn it this way.

But there are some really cool, very positive things that are coming out of it anyway. I made a lot of new friends, and I got to meet Joe Bonamassa and Dr. John. I even gave them both a CD and played a couple of songs for Dr. John on acoustic guitar after I was done performing. Several local papers have stories out about me right now, and a local band has asked me join to play some paying gigs! Plus all the gear I've gotten is nicer than anything I could have ever imagined. So I'm happy about it. :)

Montrose make's Hollywood look like a "Normal Harbor".

Sorry you had to see that side of things. I was born and raised out there and moved here as quick as I could.

Your neighbor in West Oaks.

It wasn't too bad, just different. The worst thing was seeing SamAsh, Carvin, and Mesa Boogie right across the street from Guitar Center and not being able to go.

I'll be in that Carvin store tomorrow doing a test drive. You did a fine job at the finale. Going first didn't work in your favor, but I'm sure the whole experience was well worth it. I hope to see you there next year.

Those are called "the learning years" and you don't stop learning until the day you die. Sincerely I think you did great considering the fact that they let you warm up the place for the others, it is not easy for anyone and I hope that you don't let the outcome spoil the fun you've had during the hole process of the blues battle. We can see in Drew's videos that you enjoyed playing and that is all there is. Enjoy your new gear and come back with new songs soon. :D

Very Nice playing Rebecca....I'm sure there are a few people licking their wounds....
Actually considering the problems you were having with the house audio, you did great.

Don't rehash what could or should have been, that was out of your control, instead focus on the positive aspects of it and go from there....It's much more productive in the long run...

As for the quality of the Camcorder, Drew Are You Kidding... :?: :?:
Have you listened to some of the crap that is on You Tube lately...
Shot from the nosebleed sections and the breathing from the guy in front of the cameraman
drowns out whatever mono recording is getting thru....

Nah..nice job on recording Thank You...

Cheers All,
I have a template to route..

Finally got a chance to watch the video. Work computer blocks all streaming stuff. Electric solo was great. I believe, as stated before, a little more dirt wouldn't of hurt. I was very impressed with the acoustic. Very well thought out.

Another thing to consider, you are 20 yrs. old. Twenty years ago, when I was 20, I had been playing for 5 yrs., and was nowhere close to doing anything like what you just did. Congratulations to you for your accomplishments, past, present, and future. Keep it up, good things are sure to come.

I've just started hitting the jams around Houston. I will be trying to get to the HBS monthly jam this month. I'm sure I'll run into you eventually, to congratulate you in person.

I was searching everywhere but here on the internet for video of the finals and all I found was the Guitar Center video of Bosco and his winning performance. Thankyou Drew for your video of Rebecca's jam. I am so proud of our fellow forumite. TGS you did a great job. You will always be a winner here and what you've accomplished is amazing. Your passion and musicianship will propel your career as you get more exposure. Just keep on paying your dues and success will find you when you least expect it. 8)
