Not really. It's just something about being judged. I'm not upset that I didn't advance, cause the 2 that did played very well, I just can't play at a competition. I have a video of a Battle of Bands that I played at with my previous band, no anxiety there at all. But I did have a couple of drinks before performing also.

Lots of Mojo comin' from the Great White North...if you don't win well then the fix was in, Unfortunately we don't have GC in my neck of the woods so it's a no go for trying my hands out in the comp.....best of luck ( you don't need it really, it should be a hands down no brainer) :)

Last night was interesting in our local store. There was a tie. According to the rules, the two that are tied get two minutes to play what ever they want, to showcase their talent, but with no backing track. That was kind of cool because we got a chance to see two really good players stretch a little.

The contest here is odd. They play recorded tracks that you get to practice on ahead of time. Call me a party pooper but, I would rather just jam with a mic to sing and, either a small amp with electric or, mic my voice and an acoustic miked up as well. The person can do a blues cover standard or, an original if they please! I feel it would be more entertaining as well as creative my way!

I respect anyone that would take a shot at the contest. If someone pointed a gun to my head and told me to enter one of these competitions they'd just have to shoot me.

I did download all the backing tracks that GC made available. They're all very well done.

I hear what you are saying! I guess I just prefer the open mic fashion. I don't agree with the tracks all being well done. I felt some sounded way too canned! When I saw one of these competitions a few years ago, I felt the tracks they had sounded better. I don't want to sound overconfident but, if someone held a gun to my head, I would probably smoke everyone in the house with a guitar, then I would El Cabong the idiot pointing the piece at me, as my grand finallee! (Please excuse spelling). The thing I like about this kind of contest is they sometimes (rarely) produce something great like The Animals!

By "well done" I'm referring to the production quality. Some of them are "over produced" in that they don't leave much room for the soloist.

Like them or not, the backing tracks provide a baseline for judging. If you allowed original material, you'd have to judge the material as well as the playing. There's room for a lot of different styles using the provided backing tracks.

I know this is a really late update but...

I WON! :D

I was kind of surprised considering it was probably the best group of people I've seen at one of the store finals. It was really cool too, 5 out of 6 of the contestants (including me) were under 20. And you really don't see that many teenagers playing blues that often.

I have a video that will go up on youtube after the district finals. I don't want anyone stealing my licks quite yet. The district finals will be on June 26th. I feel much better about it then I did four years ago when I went to the district finals. But I should considering I've probably played several hundred gigs since then.

Sorry it took so long for an update. I've been swamped with things to do lately.
