Years ago, I received my first guitar from my Uncle; It was a short scale parts guitar which consisted of an off-brand/generic body, 18 fret DanElectro neck, economy tuners, a DiMarzio FS1, 250K vol. pot, etc..... Here's the neck! (Nut missing, tuners not original)

Recently, my Uncle and I were talking about the guitar. He told me the neck was from the fifties! I knew it was old, but not that old. You're gonna love the story on how he got it! A close friend of his has long loved DanElectro. Years ago, the patent on the DanElectro name had ran out. So, his friend decided to renew the patent. FWIW he now owns all the rights to the DanElectro name. He tried to pitch the idea of selling re-issues of Danny's to Fender and Gibson, but they didn't want part of it. So, now some company is selling re-issues and part of the agreement is that he gets the first ten of every model made. 8) Having access to numerous warehouses(most filled with DanElectro parts), he can obtain guitar parts at low prices... This is where the neck came from. Recently, he encountered a warehouse with enough genuine Gibson parts to make about 100 Les Pauls. I swear this guy's house is piled with guitars, it's a minefield!

Long story short, I want to do something with this neck. Do you thing it would be a good idea to make a short scale Esquire or Telecaster. If so, do you have any tips/suggestions? I would plan buying a body off of ebay along with new tuners and most of the other parts I already have; it won't be too costly.

Hope you enjoyed my story! You may think it sounds like a load of bull-singlecoil, but you have my word, it's the truth and nothing but.

I have a 57 Dano U1. Pretty cool guitar. It has an aluminum nut.
Just a side note, when I clicked on your links I got a virus warning. Be careful ladies and gents.

Now if that was a Fender neck from the 50s... It sounds like a lot of work for a mutt guitar, especially since the neck is already cobbled up. Why not just have your uncle give you a new one and be done with it? Or have him throw together a Les Paul for you out of all those parts? Make a shrine and hang that neck on the wall.

As to the rest of your story, if it sounds too good to be true.....

Yes, hang it on the wall! I first learned to play on a friends Danelectro, back in the 60's. He bought it at Sears. Duane Eddy had an album with one on the cover, and I was hooked (he must have shopped at Sears too?). I now have a Beatnick Purple Convertible in my collection and that cheap little guitar is really dear to me. Thanks for your post.
