Gary, all of the material from the 60's and 70's is good stuff and the 4 years that Bob Welch was in the band is a wonderful example of the chameleon-like adaption to the changing personnel. Those 4 albums may not have sold as well as all of the others but when listening to the "Mac" that material can be appreciated for what it is, a wind of change:

Hi SBLS, yeah i love all the era's of the band from Greeny right through to Lindsey era, i think they were both great in their own ways, just very different. Greeny's era they wera an all out blues band and with Lindsey and Stevie joining a different influence was brought in which was my favorite but it's close between the two.

I just find it fascinating how a band can change so much and yet still be so great :D

Plus i almost forgot when Rick Vito played with the band he was a great player as well.

wow, surprised to find myself in the minority here voting for Buckingham era. I love the old stuff, but I'm a sucker for a commercial hit, it fascinates me why one great song melds into pop culture forever and the next song (just as great) is on a shelf collecting dust. If I could tap into that, I'd be a very happy guy.

Same here strings, i prefer the Lindsey era although i love Greeny's FM as well but there's just something about the whole Lindsey/Stevie Nicks era that appeals to me more. I just never heard Greeny's FM write a song as great as Landslide, just my op.

This one's live, so, a little rough, but, Mick Fleetwood's drumming is exceptional, driving the songs and John McVie's bass lines are out front, in the mix like another voice, a rhythm section as good as any for that time.
Who is that guitar player and what guitar is he playing?
Actually, check out all of their gear, even the blanket inside Mick's bass drum.
Such a radical change in Fleetwood Mac's music, a creative peak in modern rock and roll. Bob and Christine's vocals are clear as a bell, Christine is just crystal clear a diamond. Unique, captivating.

Not taking anything away from LB who is a great artist but, as far as I'm concerned FM is Peter Green's creation. Mick Fleetwood is the cat who took over and, has always been there from the start. Mick is FM, read his book and. you will understand why!

As a child of the 80s and 90s, I woud have said that the latter incarnations were my favourites as that is the line up of the time and they were huuuuge.........but when I worked in a Virgin Megastore, many moons ago, the Boston Box Set was released.........ever since listening to that it has been the Peter Green line up all the way for me. 8)

Ugh...and now this :(

Of the three, the Bob Welch "era" was the shortest and least renowned, but I always liked the direction the band took during that time. RIP Bob.

Well looks like there's been a surge in voting for Greeny since the last time i looked, that's cool 8) I like Lindsey/Stevie era best but it's cool people voting Greeny too :)

One of the most goosebump inducing moments in music for me was hearing Peter on "The Supernatural" ghostly reverb and phrasing from the heavens. Outstanding.

In fact i'm listening to it on YT now as i type.

Thats Bluesbreakers though.

The most awesome Green blue moment was

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaZvwGhcdSA&feature=related

Neither Buckingham or Nicks could ever match that vocal, never mind the guitar. Just for the stark reality of it. They never hit reality with the three big albums for all the coke addled haze to my mind. It was always Hollywood glam. Something I can only find bare able when the music is good. Which it was sometimes.
Listening to Green in comparison to a lot of blues players post 1960 is like the difference between running your car on 4* then switching to 5* on a empty tank. You know when you have the real deal. No messing, no nonsense. This is the way it is, raw. Three chords and the truth (insomuch as it's the truth to the composer).

A shock that Bob Welch has passed on. His contribution to Fleetwood Mac was so under-appreciated. R.I.P. Bob Welch.

I just heard about Bob Welch. I like French Kiss. I also like Paris, I had the first record. That is a real drag. RIP Bob.
