I've played through the same Ibanez DM 1,000 Digital Delay since I bought it new in 1983. It is the most versatile and easiest to use delay ever made but although they are no longer made you can still pick up decent used ones for about $100-$120 and they are well worth it because besides delay you can get flanging that has a real jet-like whoosh ,slap-back ,tape echo ,chorus ,doubling etc. When you hook up a good On/Off switch to it it can really make good use of it.

Having said all that ,if given a choice between the Ibanez DM 1000 and one of the newer ones I'd pick the Ibanez in a heartbeat except of course if an Electro Harmonix Memory Boy, Memory Toy,or Memory Man etc. was thrown into the mix.

I have a couple of Delay pedals and the one thats got me all gooey inside lately is the EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hararai...love it... does everything I need it to do ...has plenty of time ...(up to 28 seconds) has a looper and the reverse setting is Jimi incarnate. has all the features of the older Deluxe Memory Man plus...HTH

I bought a Boss DM2 many years ago when they were new. Used it (on a Moog synth of all things) for several years then boxed it up and put it away in a cupboard. Last year I was shocked to discover what unmolested good condition DM2s were selling for.

To cut a long story short, it went to a guy for x6 times the price I paid for it - and it wasn't cheap then either. But just before it went out the door I tried it again.. and (re)discovered what the fuss is all about. The way it effortlessly intergrates into your sound is amazing. Set conservatively you don't know it's on till you turn it off and wonder what happened to your sound..

I was honourably obliged to complete the sale however, so the guy went off with it very happy. I replaced it with a MXR Carbon Copy which is pretty close to the DM2, not as good - but pretty much good enough. Obviously the MXR is another analogue 'Bucket Brigade' Delay.

The DM2 had a max delay time of 300 milliseconds - the MXR CC has 600. But both were good enough for most uses unless you want to really explore - like Brian May or The Edge.

My collaborator has the Line 6 and it's another great machine..
