Anyone out there who is a VENTURES fan should get hold of the new big book about them. It tells everything, including some fairly shocking stuff along with a whole bunch of their sixties session data. Also tons of unseen photos. I got mine at Lulu.com for $39.95 plus a few bucks for shipping.
It's quite a treasure.

I have loved the ventures since I first started playing guitar. The first song I ever learned by ear was "Walk Don't Run" They made great fun music to play on the guitar. One of my personal favorites of All Time.

That's for sure, and The Ventures are still recording and touring. I see that they have concerts in Florida in April. They were just inducted (finally!!) into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. You should be able to find their induction on YouTube. I included a link to their bio book in my first post.

VENTURES FOREVER!!

I don't think the VENTURES book is available at Border's etc yet.
Go to the band's website. http://www.theventures.com

A book on the Ventures, that's for my Coffee Table. My Dad showed me Walk don't Run And Pipeline when I was very young. I learned how to fret with The Ventures.

I grew up on the Ventures as well, not just bass, lead and rhythm guitar, but musically. They explained, by example, how strong and interesting melodies were colored by creative chord structures and logical bass movements, all nailed down by solid, yet deftly interwoven percussion. They made a dynamic difference in understanding such applications to any vocal material. I, personally, can't thank them enough for inspiring me with my career. The love of music, in and of itself, (not just certain songs, artists or instruments), really makes it all worth while. It's been my experience that too many people over-focus on too few genres and can't see (or hear) the forest for the trees. While it is quite normal to have a special appreciation for a particular style of music &/or artists there in, we all need to open our minds and ears to the art and craft of creating music, along with its subsequent level of performance. If you'd like to hear me put my abilities and experience to the test, there's a place called purevolume on the web. Just click on the search tab and enter FANTUM. Then click the album art and you will be on my page. Click the top title and the 4 tunes play in auto-sequence. I hope you enjoy our efforts to honor the Ventures. BTW: Click the photos tab and take note of the 5 other groups who are all like-minded. I'd appreciate any serious comments and critiques, pro or con. Thanks!
FYI: Fender instruments were widely used in all our recording processes.
PS: The other five instrumental groups are:
Don & Dragon's Breath (Enter: dondragonsbreath)
Aaron Archelli Band, Fylo Hela, 0 Aught Zero & 0h Kay Doe Key
(The last two group names start with the number zero)

Ventures rock! I have several of their albums on vinyl.

I'll see if I can't find that book at the library, $40 is a bit steep for a po boy like me.

Apparently you don't expect to find it. Well, at least you won't be disappointed, LOL Real disappointment is when they not only have it, but have more than one copy, ALL of which are currently out and they put you on a mile-long list! Besides, it may take time for any Library to get newly published material, plus the fact that even large Libraries have limited budgets that focus them to spend on the most sought-after/popular stuff first. It might be a while; then again, it may be never. You will probably need to seek out a book like this from the biggest Library in your area.

You think $40 is expensive? Les Paul's book is $200 ! And a few days ago, a copy of this Ventures book went for $130 on eBay. :!:

The price of anything is relative to our want or need of it. Have you gone to a concert lately? The rising cost of tickets or entry fees tend to make many judgments FOR us. It doesn't really matter if you drive an old junker or a brand new Hummer.... the cost of gas hits us ALL and can easily determine how far we travel and even IF we go ANYwhere, other than where we have to. Willing to shell out the dough, to sacrifice other things and waiting to get those other things as well as paying down (lay-aways) on things we're willing pay the price to acquire is just part of how each of us deals (or must deal) with all the interconnected people and issues in our lives. (Unless you lump them together and consider people in your life as 'issues', LOL)

If you were at a garage sale and found a mint closet Strat or Tele for $40, you'd find the money REAL quick, even if you had to sell some of your own blood to get it, no matter HOW poor you be. As I pointed out up front.... it's all relative.

Being the old codger that I am, I can say I plucked my first notes on tunes from bands like the Ventures and the Monkees, (my first guitar learning book was one with Monkees tunes).
