I have a parts guitar I've had since the eary nineties. Tho its a great guitar, with quality parts. Its not my style anymore. I've had it on craigslist & not much luck selling it. Great parts on it. Kahler trem, dimarzio Brian May pickups, sperzel locking tuners. Its patterned after Brian May's from Queens guitar. One volume and tone, with 3 switches, for phase reversal.
I know a guitar is worth only what some one else will pay for.

Unfortunately, mate, you hit the nail on the head there.......... :(

I have a couple of guitars that, for me have been amazing tools and invaluable in progressing me through my playing over the years but, ultimately, they are worthless commercially.

Believe it or not you may get more selling the parts individually on cl or ebay........

True dat...
I have a mid-90's MIM Tele Special. Originally it had a coil-tapped humbucker in the neck position (after a couple of different configurations, I settled on a P-90 in the neck, stock flat-pole Tele bridge pup, 4-way Tele switching and a Fender "no-load" tone pot).

Everything about this guitar--the looks, the feel, the sound, the sustain--is excellent. When people play it, they say, "Man, that's a great guitar!" ...and it's not even worth three hundred bucks on the open market (which is about 7 billion pesos, I think). But outside of my new/old G&L Nighthawk, it's my go-to, first call guitar. I've thought about tracking another of these (Teles) down, because they're so good for the money.

Likewise, my first electric was/is a G&L F-100. It's kind of a rare animal due to it's combination of features--hardtail, rosewood fingerboard, sunburst finish, series II neck, first year of manufacture (1980) for the manufacturer, low serial number, original style headstock--but even amongst G&L enthusiasts, I really couldn't get that much for the guitar, even though it's in dang good shape, sounds great and looks good.

Same story for my first acoustic--sounds and looks great, but nobody thinks a Fender acoustic made overseas is any good. Well, they're not valuable, but "cost" and "quality" aren't always indicative of one another (Gibson Fireturd X, anyone?).

Parts guitars are "working" guitars if you ask me. There are some people out there who will buy them, myself included, if there are good parts on it that I know to be good and what I like. But I know going into it that the value still won't be much for resale.

I love parts-guitars. Most of what I have are either pieced together stuff, or carefully selected cheap guitars that have been upgraded and set-up to my specs. I have about 4-5 guitars that are in their original state (maybe cap upgrades on a couple). That makes up about 1/5 of my collection.

We play a LOT of shows, and my parts-guitars get most of the work. I typically don't drag my expensive stuff to bar gigs, outdoor gigs, or on the road. They are for the bigger concerts and recording only.

You'd likely get more that way.
