I just read the movie will start it's production. Let's hope 'the big sister' let them use Hendrix tunes!

PS: I did a google search and this website came up.

It is indeed happening. A friend of mine works in the upper echelons of the Movie Biz. She was on set last week and working on the soundtrack.

According to the articles I could find, it will be an actor playing Jimi. Well, an actor: André 3000. I do not know him as being an actor, maybe he's good.

I'll keep my fingers crossed if the info is correct though.

With who he's working with. If he's less than good before, he'll be excellent by the finish.

ive seen Andre 3000 in a film, cant remember what it was but it had Mark Wahlberg in it aswell, something about those 2 and 2 others were all adopted 'brothers' to the same adopted mum, who had been killed in a shop robbery. and the 4 brothers decided to get revenge or something. Andre was actually quite good i thought, considering he was first and foremost a singer type dude.

the film was quite decent aswell.

edit - haha it is actually called 4 brothers

Not another movie/documentary about Hendrix  Come on! what's left to say? everything about the man has been used, abused, and re-issued. Great guitarist, but it's oh so boring all this. You get fed up hearing all this cliche all the time, and i'm a Hendrix fan! The whole thing has been beaten to death and the horse flogged to within an inch of it's life.

Everything hasn't been said about Jimi, especially about the early years gigging around Nashville and Clarksville,Tn.in R&B bands....his friend Billy Cox who lives in Nashville, still has interesting stories about the man, things that only a close friend knows,he still promotes his music and plays Jimi's tunes and also new ones of his own....whether anything Billy has to say will be included or not,I don't know.
For those interested, there's still things to learn. :D

In the book i've got about Hendrix it go's into all that covering when he played with Little Richard The Isley Bros and all the rest of that stuff. The vast majority of people know about all that and quite frankly it's not very interesting anyway. I would think many people want to hear about him when he became fully developed as an artist and are not all that interested in the chitlin circuit.

It's been said and done and is so boring and negative, i'd rather hear about someone new and interesting doing something different with the guitar. Way more positive and looking to the future.

while im definitely not diverse and learned in the range of music the world has to offer, off the top of my head i can only think of one guitarist who is pushing the boundaries of guitar and inventing new sounds, and thats Jack White, IMO. i dont think many people would pay to go watch a film about him, and at the end of the day, to make a film you need to know people will pay to watch it.

im sure theres lots of guitarists i dont know about creating crazy new sounds, but if they arent as famous as White then theres definitely no way a film about them will be a money maker.

That's kinda like saying, "I don't want to ever see a movie about World War II--I know who won..."
I knew a great deal about Johnny Cash and Ray Charles before their respective biopics were made and released--yet I still enjoyed each of those flicks.
I still wonder why a movie about Waylon Jennings has never been made...his early fights with the labels, his explosion of fame in the mid-70's, the love story between him and Jessie Coulter and his struggles with the white powder...lots of good plot points.
I hope this movie is respectful but not reverent regarding Jimi, and I hope it's accurate (especially instrument-wise...it drives me nuts when a band set in 1957 is playing a Fender Mustang through a Marshall stack or something).

SA...one of my best friends played in Waylon's band through those years,if they just made a movie about half of the stuff he's told me,it would be great!

Doesn't need to be a film, a TV documentary would do every bit as good. there's just too much harping back to Hendrix period. He was a great player and we still like him but come on another film about him.

As far as Jack White what about the great film he made with Edge and Pagey? way more interesting than this Hendrix project detailing for the millionth time how he was discovered and the role Chas Chandler played and on and on, YAWN!

Boring and done to death

for every good thing in that film, The Edge was in it. i have as much distaste for him as you seem to for regurgitated Hendrix films.

its about making money, and that means making films about somebody so famous people will go to the cinema, pay an extortionate amount to get in, pay an extortionate amount for a tin of coke and some crap popcorn, and walk across a sticky floor to get to their seat.

given the success of the Bob Marley film, im not surprised its happening. no doubt theres a Reggae forum somewhere with loads of people saying "why have they made another film about Marley, theres so many other good unknown reggae musicians".

Not just Hendrix films, everything Jimi in fact. Don't get me wrong i'm a massive Hendrix fan and he's been one of my biggest influences. But his back catalog has been squeezed tweaked and generally ripped off left right and center. Interfering with tracks he recorded, adding other musicians onto tapes he left. On and on it go's, it's become sickening.

Why would anyone have a distaste for Edge? :? one of the originals in the guitar world. See he actually went the creative route and developed a style of his own instead of becoming a 3rd rate Hendrix or Clapton clone and god knows we have more than enough of those already. I don't understand you.

It's all about making money, that's true and rehashing the story for the millionth time as well. Someone went and saw Hendrix in Greenwich village told Chas Chandler and he went to see him. How many different ways is there to tell the same story? It's old, it's boring, it's in the past. Time to look forward and think about creating instead of imitating.

That BTW dovetails neatly into my point about Edge. There are so many imitators in the guitar world, they don't want to, or are unable to create their own sound so they ape someone else's. Edge forged his own sound and is instantly recognisable. He is no virtuoso but i have infinitely more respect for him as an artist than all the Jimi, Eric, or SRV clones. He had the vision to do something different which is what art is all about, individuality.
