I know some of you would never consider buying a guitar online. I've bought three online with no regrets. In fact the money I saved on two pretty much paid for the third. So I've been sitting here this evening scratching my new gas itch. For Fathers day I'm going to try and wrangle a new '12 LP Standard.
They pretty much run $2,599 everywhere. On ebay, Music 123 has several listed at $2,261.13 but not the Honeyburst finish I crave. So I go to their website thinking I could just order it when the time comes and it's listed at $2,599 for all finishes.
The ebay listing is a buy it now price, so it's not like it's the starting bid price. Why would they sell a guitar for over $300 less on ebay? It has to cost them more to sell through ebay than if I order it from their website.
I just wondered if anyone has any insight into the logic of this. For $300 I guess I'll keep watching ebay to see if they list a Honeyburst. It's really tough to be a cheapo and have gas.

Why not give them a call to see of they'll let you have the Honeyburst at the eBay price. What have you got to lose?

I have bought a truck load of guitars online and I have one rule: If there's any issues that I can't get a good answer to, I don't do it.

For the sake of saving $300 on that deal, I'd buy it locally where I can play it and have all my questions answered on the spot.

+2 One of my biggest rules is to never ever buy a guitar or amp on line. I don't want to play the whole shipping game if I don't like it. I want to look at it, hold it inspect it and bond with it before I plunk down any money. That's just me though. Plus with all the fakes around I don't trust anyone. Most of my local shops including Mom and Pop shops will price match for me. Half the fun for me is trying out a bunch of guitars. When I bought my Gibson LP Studio 60's Tribute, I tried four of them before I took one home. I hung out for over two hours trying them out.

I agree with the hold, touch, hug thing. But like I said, I'm cheap and with tax, my savings will be about $560 over buying it local. I don't know how much the local shops are willing to deal on a new '12 LP Standard since they just came out and seem to be selling well. I just thought it was odd that the same company sells a guitar considerably cheaper on ebay than on their own website. As it gets closer to fathers day, I'll weigh all the sales and discounts and be ready to pounce. With my wifes blessing, hopefully.

Whenever somethings that far below retail, I start to get a little suspicious. Could be a demo or a 2nd. Something just don't smell right. Hopefully, it's all good and you get a good deal.
I don't blame you about the Honeyburst finish. That's what I have on my Gibson LP 60's Studio Tribute with the P-90's. I'll tell you what, it looks great even without the gloss. The P-90's are the icing on the cake.

Last time I bought off the net, I bought direct from the manufacturer. I was less than pleased. I should have sent the thing back but opted to get the spanners to it instead.

Well, aside from some bridge issues, it's about there.

Fun with waterslide paper

I'm not positive I'm going to buy online again. But if I do, and I screw up, you'll be the first to hear about it. I ain't proud.
Niki, that headstock looks a little like Bart Simpson. Just sayin'. :D

Alright, I kind of answered my own question. I went back and read all the fine print on the Music123 ebay listings and though they don't come right out and say it, these must be returns. Packaging not to factory standards and no warranty.
What's that old saying, "If it seems to good to screw, do it anyway". Something like that.
