fellow guitar/ equipment fanatics i want to let you know that i built a rangemaster clone (original specs) at a cost of $39. yeh, all those folks who did or are about to pay a hurtful 300 bucks for one.. rethink this. the money i would pay for a booster ($49) bought enough specific supplies to build 3 units. the enclosures cost me 23 bucks each. to make a long story short the damn things sound fanastic. you can get Rory Gallaghers tone (with a dark sounding amp). the "cocked wah" sound is there. even through a fender bdri with the tone controls set a bit dark. we have all been had. revolt against the hype and build one for yourself. it's easy and worth the money and time spent. i don't know if anyone still gives a flip for this stuff but the old r.m. is still a cool effect today. hell i'm old school anyway. good luck. oh yeh... the best part of this little beast is if you don't like the treble boost you can increase the input and output caps and get a heavier sound or boost mids. too easy.rocket scientists need not apply.

The parts to knock up a fuzz cost me precisely £14.33.
Then add 4 hours labour to do the job. £50 all in cos I just don't see the things as being worth more than that.
Needless to say I don't do it for a living.

Been chatting to this fella a bit. He seems to stock only what I want, pedals that don't sound like all the rest of the junk on the market.

simple, search dallas rangemaster schematic, the easiest and best ones are built on a solder lug terminal. it's point to point . then find yourself a good parts source. the enclosure i used is a bud industries 5"x4"x3" (in the u.s.) metal alloy enclosure.i chose the stand alone original design instead of a pedal. i love the effects no one uses anymore. eventhough the original rangemaster was a bit noisy, you can use metal film resistors instead of carbon composition resistors(they tend to hiss and drift a bit with different temps)to quieten it down and it really is not as noisy as some have claimed. i used a .0047uf "orange drop"cap for the input and a .01uf cap on the output. it's just my opinion but the "orange drops" sound better and i did try others. those values are spec. you can make a great treble booster with an E.H. nano l.p.b.-1 pedal, just change c1 cap to .0047uf and c2 cap to .01uf. that little mod will get loud because of the silicon transistor bias. you can calm it down by changing r5(390 ohm) to a 1k resistor. .0068uf caps also work nice on the input of both effects. i love the "what if i change this......" effects.
