Just wondering, is the bridge/pickup section black powder coated or rusty? I can't tell from the picture.

I think it has a coating, because it's not really rusted. Discolored maybe.

Looks like it, but it also kinda looks like rust from the picture. Anyways, It reminds me of that coating people put in their truck beds. You know what I'm talking about, correct?

I know what your talking about it's called bed liner.

I was thinking that, but then I thought of the plastic inserts that are called "bedliners"

Well, I took it to my guitar tech today and we finally tested it! The pickup works perfectly fine, although I think that the volume pot has had it. It's scratchy beyond repair. No big deal though, it's easy enough to replace. We also dug through the parts catalog and found tuning machines that will fit and which cost only $12, so I'll be ordering a set. I'm also definitely going to add a normal jack to it. We'll have to decide on a barrel jack or a jack with a jack plate after we open up the insides and see which would be easier to install. We also still need to find out if the pickup is a humbucker or not. It's humbucker sized, but I thought they didn't start using them until the late 50's, and with this one being from '54 I think a single coil is much more likely.

I don't know how long it's going to be before those tuners get here, but I assume we'll start work on it then. Plenty of better pics and gut shots coming soon. :)

Sounds great too. If you want any more knobs than that you gotta be a pig.
Great slide guitar. There's actually a third pickup under the bridge.

Very cool find there, I totally dig the logo, too.

Thought I'd mention Goodwill auctions instruments online, and you never know what you'll find. It's a crapshoot of course, as you cant examine what you bid on first, and they freely admit they are not 'guitar experts'. Still interesting to browse around though. :)

I actually found my Samick Neck Through on that site. The one big thing they missed was a crack right at the nut, but it was a fairly easy fix.

I just ordered those cheap tuning keys today. They'll probably be here by next week. Then we'll get started. :)
