I'm thinking Teisco on the 2nd one. They always burst on the headstock and the bar string tree is one of their common things.

Also, on the second one, is there a tool holder on the back of the headstock? That was another key feature I've seen on many Teisco guitars.

The bridge, tailpiece, truss rod and the pickups on the guitar in the original post are identical to the Winston I had and posted. Winston I believe was made by Teisco.

Pretty much all those old brands came from Teisco......

I would go with Audition..........that little sub of Teisco was very keen on the front sided route for the vol and tone knobs, a bit reminiscent of the Gibson 325 was it.....?
I have an old Audition....bugger to get parts that fit so it sits under the bed in a state of, well, nakedness cos I couldn't find any hardware for it and can never be bothered making any........
Audition were sold out of Woolworths in the 60s.........

my guess is its either a Kay or a Tiesco and I'm more incled to think Kay because they had this cheap metallic "K" as branding on their headstocks that always came off where as most tiesco's had stickers ....

Some one here may know http://www.vintaxe.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=8&sid=082863aaf63a7dfda46b3e9e732e04d1

They had a Winston catalog from 68 but you have to be a member or subscribe to their Catalog service to view it I believe. It looks like a relatively new forum anyway.

A company called Kent had similar guitars with the same headstock in the 60's.

Wow thanks for all the input everyone. Guess its a lot harder to identify than i thought. The pictures of the Winston point out a lot of similarities for sure. I did find a lot of teisco guitars with the same pickups but the knobs are something i haven't found anywhere either. i just posted on the vintage axe website as well. My father traded for it in the early 70s. i pulled it out of the attic a few years back and saved it from my brother trying to pawn it(hes a drummer). Hopefully ill find someone with the same guitar somewhere, but im alright with just knowing that its old and rarer than i thought. Thanks again for some direction.
