I know there have been a couple of these threads since I've been here, but its always good to hear a kickass riff.

I was thinking for many hours last night which one deserves gold medal in my books. I had to give it to this though;

The greatest rock riff of all time has to be 'Highway To Hell' by AC/DC, simple but incredibly hard hitting. Definitely the greatest ever IMO.

Greatest Riff Ever? Got to be Layla from Derek & The Dominos :!: :!: :!: And the fact it was done on a Vintage Strat through a Tweed Champ makes it all the better 8)

an age showing thread:

I agree "Sunshine of your Love" and would add "Crossroads" for Cream
"Foxy Lady" and "Purple Haze" for The Jimi Hendrix Experience
"Light My Fire" for the Doors
this could go on forever....

+1 for a vintage riff.

For something more modern, I prefer this......

It's a toss-up between the riff in Stairway to Heaven, the riff called Flying in a Blue Dream, and...the riff in The Necromancer: Into Darkness/Under the Shadow/Return of the Prince -- Satch landin' on the side of the coin, quite rare, utterly amazing when you see it happen!

Also like Moby Dick and Black Dog by Led Zep, they're both rockin' riffs.
