Anyone know how to make palm muting sound more defined?

When I palm mute it sounds muddy and dull..is it my technique? Im only letting the side of my palm gently touch the strings. Im pretty sure i've got it down so im wondering what amp settings/effects I can use to bring out the sound.

Chug chug chug. My guess is that you're putting too much weight on the strings.

If you're over tuned it will take the depth out of the sound. Drop a half step and see what it does for you. Also, try to move your hand as close to the bridge as possible.

Hi HalfEmpty: frankly, without hearing and seeing your technique it's hard to say. However, something to think about is that the heavy users of palm muting often do so in conjunction with quite prominent FX settings. The chug-chug metal crowd will be running a shedload of distortion, while the rockabillies are using reverb and slapback delay.

Either of those help palm muting sound more purposeful.

Does that get you anywhere further foward?

Cheers - C
