Not long ago I bought a brand new Fender CD60CE all mahogany FSR guitar. I was (am) extremely happy with the purchase because you really can't beat a all-hog guitar with electronics and a hardshell case for $270. But what really made me buy this guitar was that it apparently has a solid top! Or so the sticker on the pickguard said. So I emailed Fender to ask for a full spec sheet and production run, and about ten days later I got a reply:

Quote:
We apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry,...we've been experiencing extremely heavy volumes of email traffic over the last few months, and unfortunately are a bit behind on responses as a result.

According to our records, CC110916201 dates to 11/2011, and corresponds with the guitar below. I don't have numbers on production,...but probably under 1000 units to date.

Cheers

One thing immediately caught my eye. It says it's a laminated top! So I thanked him but asked about the discrepancy and shortly after he replied:
Quote:
Yes,...the spec sheet has a misprint,...it was pulled from the "non FSR" version of the CD60.

So I was happy again. it was just a misprint. But then about an hour later I got this:
Quote:
Hello again Juan,...

My apologies, our Marketing Manager for Acoustic Guitars contacted me again,...and retracted what he told me earlier. He said that, the top on the FSR CD60CE is indeed laminated Mahogany. If it came with the sticker on the pickguard, the factory in China put it on in error. I did a web search and saw only one other posting with the solid top sticker,...the others showed the guitar to have a laminated top. We're sorry about this misinformation. Would you like to keep the guitar or return it?

I was disappointed to say the least. The solid top IS what made me bite the bullet, otherwise I would of gone with the regular CD60 (no electronics) in sunburst which was retailing for $199. But Fender offered me to choose something from the Fender store as compensation. I thought that was fair enough! So after browsing the store I choose a 24" Fender Custom Shop barstool since I don't have one for playing my guitar!

Just missed the FedEx man yesterday but I'm hoping to catch him today! Thank you Fender, you have a customer for life!

Here's the guitar:

Sweet barstool! Now I want one...are you sure this isn't a clever pitch to sell more stools?

Thats a very nice looking guitar. If it plays as good as it looks you got a good deal.

She plays and sounds very nice. Too bad the ten year old Chinese kid in charge of affixing stickers messed up!
