A little on the grungy side, but thought I'd throw it out here for comments.

Very cool take, Mr. Frankie...thanks for sharing! That's always been one of my favorite songs for stretching out into a jam.

thanks guyz!
SA, did you pick up on the "How Great Thou Art" melody around 2:50?
tbazz, I'm just getting started on doing slide. My 4 sons collaborated and got me a Hound Dog roundneck for my last b-day.
I ran it through a Fishman preamp and directly into the recorder.

... and Mr. Houston, coming from you, that's a compliment 8)

Other instruments are my son's Rogue bass, a cajon he made in wood shop, a wood tambourine with a skin (it's going on 30 years old), and the vocal was done with a JT30 mic with a filter effect.

Finally got my studio up and running... havin' a blast!

Are you playing that in open D?

That's open G. Bass is tuned down to open G also... although I did it all on the 3rd string. Thought I'd try to make it as close to the "wash-tub and stick with a rope" bass as I could (like it was probably intended for).
I've been working on an instrumental Amazing Grace in open D. Saw Brooks Williams do it a few months ago and went home and learned it.
Also trying to learn "Cowboy"s Please Be With Me in D... (D for Duane... but I sound nothing at all like him) yeesh!

One of the things I really like about this site is getting exposed to music like this and players like yourself. Thank you for that.

Glad to be of service 8)
I've been a fan of resonators for quite awhile. Funny when you come to realize some of the songs you've been familliar with for eons have that distinctive sound - Zeppelin's Going to California for one.

Thanks Mike.
I tripped a couple of times... recorded each instrument start to finish and left all the mistakes in... imo, one of those songs that, if it were perfect it would have no character.
(or maybe that's just my excuse for being lazy) :D

Sounds great Frankie. The Houndog sounds very authentic. I also play resonators mostly in G, so I can really relate to this.
This little "Robert Johnson" chord may interest you if you don't already use it. It's just three fingers, with the bottleneck on the pinky.
First String - 5th fret
Second String - 6th fret
Third String - 7th fret
Play as many or as few of the strings as you like. I don't know what it's called, but I throw it in when playing the open G chord, gives a nice variation.
You've got me itchin' to post some recordings of my own now 8)

Meanwhile here are my Resos.

Goodonya ...Mark.

SBLS, thank you very much for that.

Mark, I don't use much of anything yet seeing I haven't been playing slide for all that long... I'll give that chord a whirl next time I'm at it. (beautiful reso's btw, I remember seeing the one on the left in another of your posts awhile back).

Right now my favorite slide is a thin-wall Dunlop brass one. I tried glass, but it just didn't have enough "bite". When I bought the slide it had some kind of coating on it, almost like a varnish you'd find on a brass lampstand. It started to scratch and wear as soon as I started using it so I shelved it for awhile.
One night I mounted it to my drill press, sanded the finish off, and polished to a bright mirror shine... much better now.
