Is this of course IMHO where YMMV? 8)

;-)

I would probably go for the screw option, or try a "2-component-glue" like JB Weld. But I must warn you: That stuff really "welds" the tip to the switch once set.

Have you tried using a brand new switch tip? Perhaps you could build up the cavity of the tip with superglue (in layers), wait till that is properly dry, then use a tiny bit of force to stick it onto the switch. It should ideally then hold on by itself.

Could additionally roughen a few spots of the switch end with a file, give teh tip something to "bit" on.

Let us know how you solved it, will ya? *cough* photos *cough* 8)

Cheers

Nutter

Actually, this would be more along the lines of, "...your viscosity may vary."

Ditch the switch knob - - problem solved.

Play it without a tip or make one by wrapping your favorite
colored tape around the top. This gives your Tele extra mojotone too. :D

I have to agree with this if the hot glue or a new tip doesn't do it for ya. If you don't have a hot glue gun then ask around for someone who does. Even though you can pick up a cheap one for around $15-$20 it may not be worth letting the bux go if you never use it again.

I use masking tape on the Strat pot posts and selector switch if the knobs or switch tip are not tight enough.

Do you still experience flying tips?

Have you tried hot glue?

In the spirit of scientific enquiry of this thread, I'm wondering whether an entirely different type of switch tip might perform better?

This one is stylish:

This is better for speedy pickup switching on the fly:

This might be preferable for tiny adjustments:

Or the heavy duty option might prove best:

Always good to consider the choices.

(With beautiful irony, it would have been easier to take those photos with the proper switch tip removed, but pull as I might I couldn't get it off! )

Guilty secret. I use a Strat switch tip. It never comes off.

You can just see it poking out from the blue left toe on this picture, taken last summer.

At Christmas shortly before I swapped the bridge

Not only is the Strat a superior design. The switch tip is too.

I don't have flying tips, and never have used hot glue...my main thing is if the knobs don't fit tight enough, they start to spin a little around on the post...I like 'em tight.
